Oil pressure problems

OK guys I have a 90 tsi talon here's my problem I just did a fresh rebuild on the engine and every thing has been going good no knock,rattles,pings,ticks,and,great oil pressure . well the other day I stared it up for a buddy and i heard the lifter ticking so i get in the car and there no oil pressure at all so I shut the engine off real quick and that's where i'm at now.

Do you guys think i have air in the oil pump or the oiling system I didn't prim the oil pump before i stared it (but the oil pressure came right up) or do you think I have a clog?

how are you checking the oil pressure? if its the stock gauge, get an accurate one(aftermarket) and then report back to us.

The stock one will still give you an idea, good oil pressure is right around the middle of the gauge. If you aren't leaking oil, check your oil filter housing for clogging, and see if your dipstick is sealing. Giving you wouldn't lose much at all from the dip stick but just something else to check.

I agree with these guys, you should first get an aftermarket gauge that will let you read the oil pressure with accuracy. After you have gotten your gauge come back and report to this again..

Nope the dummy light wasn't no but I know its losing oil pressure to the top end. I'm going to hook a oil gauge up and prime the oil pump and see if that helps.

Why is everyone so adament on an aftermarket gauge? Yes, it will be more accurate but if he's got oil pressure then he's got oil pressure. If there is no oil pressure, then there's no oil pressure.

I would start with taking off your oil cap and starting it to visually see what kind of pressure you're getting to the head. If that looks normal then your gauge is misleading you to no oil pressure. If there's no oil up there then you probably have big problems. If you think your pressure is just low, then you would want to get an aftermarket gauge.

And if it's losing oil pressure and still flowing oil then priming the pump probably isn't going to do you any good.

Do you still have balance shafts?

When you say a "fresh" build does that mean you replaced everything? Did you replace oil pump, timing belt, tensioners, rods, pistons, bearings, bolts, gaskets, valves, sprockets??

How long did you spend at the "top end"?

If it was a fair amount of time, you may have just pumped the oil pan dry.

The oil pump will move more oil to the top of the engine, than gravity will pull back down.

I had a problem once. I rebuild the engine and it worked fine for couple days until i started hearing the lifters, turns out i had no oil pressure. I primed the pump that didnt help, oil filter didn't help. I took the oil pan off to see whats happening there and found out that my pick up tube was clogged. Turns out that when i was cleaning the cylinder walls and gasket surfaces, the tiny microscopic materials got everywhere and clogged the tube

I cleaned everything, primed the pump and it was all good again.

Try to prime the pump first to see if it goes away, i dosent matter if you have stock gauge for now it still gives a fair enough accurate reading.

BogusSvo the top end was taken apart but It was lube up when I installed and it has oil in the oil pan still. As far as the build acl bearing .010 over (crank was ground .10/.10),NPR piston 85.5 mm,arp head suds, comeic head gasket,and valve cover oil pan gasket etc. But I did put stainless still oil lines to the turbo think this could be a problem? I'm thinking oil pick up might be clogged I'll get back to you guys tonight and see if I come up with anything!
