Ok heres the deal. I'll just be driving or sitting at idle and my oil pressure will drop a whole lot, then like something in the motor gets louder, like it will make this ugly rattling noise, plus the lifters will get louder and it sounds like the cams might be hitting something or something.

does anyone know why this could be, Like if i'm driving and its dropping sometimes i can just rev it high and it will go back up etc.

Oh yeah its a fresh rebuilt motor(and it will smoke, white at idle sometimes, then shoot out clouds), then if i hammer it gets darker, could the smoking be because of the oil pressure problem ?

white smoke!mine did it for little while thats to much gas runnin rich.so u hear a pinging noise in the vale train.(vale train noise is low octain gas or no oil gettin there)dark smoke is oil gettin burnt.

Well oil pressure is going to naturally drop at idle . . . but if you're hearing clicking/banging/knocking, etc. . . it very well might be a lack of oil and thus your oil pump might need changing.

As for the smoke . . . I've always been told a little white smoke is a sign of a healthy engine. . . CLOUDS of it might indicate a blown water jacket / head gasket. As for black smoke . . . definitely either oil or TONS of fuel. Most likely place for oil to get into the cylinders would be past the valve guide seals (which are fairly easy to replace).

Afraid that's the best I can do without more info.

well it isn't a banging, knocking etc. noise, its like the lifter noise but it isn't the lifters, because you can hear them, and the other noise at the same time, Like most of the time the oil pressure just wants to sit at very low, Like just driving out of no where it will drop very very low, then you gotta turn the car off, restart it a couple times to get it to go back up. Its wierd.

But yeah i think its the fuel(the smoking) because when you put different octane of gas in it, the smoking is different for each octane, Like on 87 or so it doesn't want to smoke a whole lot, but then on 93 it seems to smoke more.
