As I was checking my oil in my other car because of a bad oil cooler line, I was thinking if there was a way to have an oil pressure switch wired so if it the pressure dropped below a certain psi for whatever reason, it would cut the engine off? Rather then the oil dummy light turning on telling you turn off the car after you probably lost oil or pressure causing damage.

Maybe an added insurance to having an oil pressure gauge that can do that. I stare at my auto meter electrical gauge every 3 seconds of driving just in case but nothing wrong with being safe.

I'm all about being efficient ;)

I would grab a aftermarket oil pressure gauge, from prosport with the warning lights, but you may have to make a diy unit to cut your engine off.

I really like that idea! You could use a lighting contactor to relay the fuel pump, if you have oil pressure the contactor will be closed if you lose pressure the contactor opens and no current will be delivered to the pump.

So it does sound like a feasible and even simple idea eh? Anymore input?

First, I'd go with a good aftermarket gauge like AEM, Autometer, Defi, etc. Stay away from the cheap stuff like Prosport, Glowshift, etc. Been down that road myself and now every single gauge in my car is AEM.

You'd first need to see what PSI you oil as at when doing a pull, from there you could figure out what pressure would cause damage.

I think this is the perfect situation for a mircocontroller like an Adruino because it can take an input (pressure in this cause) and give you an output (cutting the engine). I would cut the power to the MFI relay since this would kill the ECU and thus kill the motor.
You've now given me an idea for something else my car needs but I shouldn't be worrying about because it hasn't run in years.

Don't worry, I got my auto meter electric oil gauge at the proper psi. No damage is being done but I would llike a proper safety measure just cause. I like the MFI relay idea too. good thinking
