oil light came on oil pressure gauge stopped working

The oil light came on. The oil pressure gauge was still working. I checked the oil. Mobil1 full synthetic 10w/30 with Mobil1 oil filter. The dipstick read full and the oil was in good condition. I never let the Talon go more than 2000 miles before doing an oil change. I continued to drive it and just kept an eagle eye on the oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, oil level and clarity. My mechanic buddy figured was a bad sender unit. I bought a new sender unit. Satan had to order it and it won't be in for a few days. Then today the oil pressure gauge stopped working. I was driving the hell out of it when it happened. I took it out for a good spring time romp. Not sure how long into the drive the pressure gauge stopped working. Nothing changed with the functioning of the car. Oil levels still good. Oil looks nice and clean with little particulate. Car is running exactly at the same temp it was before it broke. As far as I can tell nothing has changed I just lost my oil pressure gauge but I don't really like that. Any ideas? The snow had been really deep a few times here and it's my DD so I was wondering if I damaged or tore of the wire that goes to the sender unit.

Just kidding. When the oil gauge first came on I did look. The connection looked intact. Since the oil pressure gauge stopped working I haven't be down to look under the car. I got sidelined by a prostate, urinary bladder, kidney and sines infection that put me in the hospital for two days. I came pretty close to my kidneys shutting down. I'm now on a six month regimen of antibiotics. I swear I'll look when I feel better.

haha The new oil pressure sender should be in from satan any day now

When I got under the car lo and behold the wire to the sensor was hangin down unplugged. The old oil pressure sender unit looked crappy and was rusty so I still replaced it anyway. Just a tiny little bit of insurance in a very important system. I was down there anyways. Now my in car oil pressure gauge works again! Wonderful! I still have that dang oil teakettle red light lit tho!? Why is that light on? What exactly does it indicate? Amount of oil in the car is perfect. Oil pressure is beauteous.

Plug the other wire back on the other sender.

The one I just took off? You think maybe the new one is defective? I have the wire connected to the new sender and I am getting what looks to be accurate oil pressure readings.
By the way Defiant your car is the closest thing my car has to a twin on here

I think the idiot light sender unit died as well as the oil pressure sender unit. I monitor my oil levels very closely. I can wait til next paycheck to take care of that one. Not having a working oil pressure gauge alarms me tho and I am no longer alarmed since it seems to be working perfectly Great pic by the way. Very helpful. Funny, the guy at the Mitsubitchi dealer didn't even know about that idiot light sender unit.

This is all possible with the stock oil filter fitting? I thought I had read that I was going to have to buy a different oil filter fitting for a EVO.
