Title pretty much covers the question. I noticed my oil light is on and flickering constantly but when I checked the oil level the dip stick shows oil level is good. What should I check?

My light was doing the same thing when I reved the motor up. My oil pressure switch was leaking right where the plastic sensor and metal end met going into the block which gave a false reading. Look for a oil leak on the backside of the motor. But like said above don't ignore the light check it out throughly.

If I'm correct, you should also have a gauge too. If so, how is that reading? The gauge and the light each have their own senders. When the senders get old, they get clogged and less sensitive.

Unless it's sender switch is bad, the oil light means less than 4 psi oil pressure! So turn off your engine immediately or kiss it goodby. The light is on when you first turn the key on of course. The oil pressure gauge can be used to determine if the oil light sender switch is bad.

Check your oil pressure ASAP with a good pressure tester. Your oil pump may be tired or the plunger inside the oil filter housing is open due to debris or something that nature.

When the oil pressure drops, do you hear any change it the engine sound? Like excessive chattering/clicking/ticking? If not it's most likely just your pressure sender or gauge cluster itself. Good luck!!

thanks to everyone for the advice. problem solved. ended up being a wire that had came loose and grounded itself to the oil filter housing. no idea what the wire is for. It is the same size wire that is connected to the oil level sensor. could this wire be for the pressure gauge since my pressure gauge doesn't work?
