Okay so my oil level is perfect when it's off and cold and level, but if I let it run for about 10 to 20 seconds it goes down by half a quart which makes sense but should I fill in that extra half a quart?

Stop the engine and check the engine oil level is within the level range indicated on the oil dipstick.

As long as it is above the minimum line, then leave it alone. Most people only think that low oil causes problems, but overfilling causes problems too. Just keep an eye on it, checking it whenever you have time.

Give the motor time to let all of the oil return to the pan before checking and see if it is at the proper level. Give it 5 minutes, a lot of oil is in the head and has to get back to the pan.
