I don't know if you can buy the spark plug well seals separately, but they are a PITA to get out if they used too much sealant on the top half, I remember that much.

You can get the half-moon and all the little tabbed plug well seals with any full valve cover gasket set from Napa or Autozone.

The cam shaft seals (complete rings without tabs) are a little different and usually have to be bought separately with the cam angle sensor seal. If I recall correctly, they just kind of pop into the ends.

No not those they look like little plugs that you screw into the top of the valve cover so you dont screw the bolts on too tight. mine are leaking and so is the valve cover gasket. the problem i am having is buying the grommets(thats what there called) seperatley. they only wanna sell it to me with a whole gasket set and head studs. But everything there giving me with the stuff i need is extremely cheap gasketS from ebay.

Your profile is correct and up-to-date, in that you have a TSi? I ask, because the 420a VC does use grommets in the screw holes, where the 4g63's doesn't.

Well, that would explain why he's leaking.LOL

If you have a 4G63 then you need to remove those grommets.

Could be a cracked valve cover.. Mine leaked and I thought "Nah, couldn't be a cracked cover". Pulled it off and sure enough there was a small crack but it made it leaks like none other.

Jb Welded with RTV on top, good as new.

no the valve cover is new and powder coated. and you know what it never leaked like this until i put those grommets i had on there. so i will remove them get a new gasket silicone that biatch with hi-temp sealant and call it a day thanks alot everyone

It can still crack dawg.. if you over tighten the bolts even by a tiny bit it'll crack it.

I still have no idea where these grommets might be if they're leaking oil. The only thing even close is the rubber washers for the plastic spark plug cover, and as others have said, oil should not be leaking from there. It might also be a leaking oil cap seal. The oil will run down along the edge of the spark plug cover and can make it look like it's coming from one or two of those spark plug cover bolts. The bolts around the outside of the VC and the other VC bolts under the spark plug cover shouldn't have any rubber anything.

And don't go overboard with RTV on the gasket. You only need it around the half-moon seal and at the 90° corners at the cams, and you only need a LITTLE bit. And if you don't go easy torqueing down the VC bolts, that new powdercoated VC will crack. 3lb-ft of torque is not much. You can apply that kinda torque with your grip and a nut driver.

dont rtv the gasket, just put it in the valve cover and go to your local parts store and get a rubber solvent that makes rubber expand, lighty apply that, let sit and reinstall, no rty mess

I have oil pooling on the valve cover and also on the underside of my hood. I also leave pretty little rainbow puddles everywhere, replacing about a quart a week. HELP!!!!! I have all new seals and gaskets to put in- head gasket, valve cover gasket, valve stem seal, etc....would like to know the reason though before trying to blindly fix things. Large quantities of smoke under any acceleration....blue in color....looks like i have an aftermarket smoke screen. it is a 90 talon tsi....motor swapped when original motor was blown by previous owner...any help is appreciated. Thanks

Chances are, it is your oil cap not sealing on the valve cover. It seems they are notorious for leaking and not sealing very good. The smoke may be from the leaking oil running down onto your exhaust manifold and burning. Try replacing the cap or adding another gasket to it and see if that helps.

if its pooling on your valve cover its most likely your seals around the spark plugs. The valve cover gasket kit should come with new ones. when you take off the valve cover you will see them.

I had a similar problem, not quite on this scale, but I did have a pool of oil collecting on my valve cover. Nothing was squirting all over the place or smoking, but the oil cap was noticeably loose. I just bought a new seal, pulled the cap out and pealed what was left of the old seal off. Once the new seal was on, the cap was tight and no more oil on my valve cover.

i had the same problem. your oil cap seal is bad. just go to the local junk yard and get one off of a car and make sure it has a good seal. it should be like 10 bucks

Why does someone always have to ruin the moment with a scary Option B? OMG ;)

Because that's what it was in my case.LOL I couldn't tell it was cracked until I removed it and found the tiniest little crack from underneath.

i had good luck with cleaning mine with brake cleaner and scuffing the area with some scothbrite and putting a bead of pematex ultra grey in the area, couldn't even tell i did anything, but it held for a few weeks while i was painting my other vc..

Mine does it from a crack in my cover. Mine is cracked by the oil cap were it rolls over in to the valley.

hey everyone im not sure if this is a common dsm problem or what but ive noticed my valve cover fills up with a little bit of oil where the spark plugs are ive changed the oil cap and all then i clean the mess it makes and i drive it and its right back any one have any ideas or have this happen before? thank you and another i read the oil gauge on these are very accurate well when i drive the oil pres. is fine then when i get on it on the high way it goes really high what could cause high oil pressure thanx alot in advance

brian

Your valve cover is cracked or you sealants need to be replaced. As for high oil pressure it does get higher when the turbo kicks in or at high rpm but if it get too high I'd check the turbo oil lines for bends.
