Make sure your valve cover isnt cracked. They like to crack down in the "spark plug valley" as I call it, closest to the cam gears, right on the 90* transition. I have the same problem and I think thats why my car idles all kinds of crazy.

The crack was my first guess also.

hey guys,

I just changed my valve cover gasket.

torqued the outside bolts to 32 in/lbs and the spark plug ones to 24 in/lbs. Now, before it was leaking at the spark plug bolts. It's not now. i think.... it's leaking at the two right bolts next to the cams. The ones on the inside. I did those to 32 in/lbs. I noticed one was long and one was short also.

should those have been 24 in/lbs?

just a note,, I used no rtv except on the half moon, i cleaned all surfaces real well and checked for cracks. My oil cap is new from extreme psi.

i researched this a bit and i found that a valve cover should be torqued to 4-5 ft/lbs MAX... any more and youll crack the cover... that should be around 48 in/lbs all the way around

Also it is a good idea to alternate oppiset sides when torquing to make sure it is seating evenly. I failed to do this the 1st time and ended up having to do it all over again.

my valve cover goes in a 3 stage 1st round 3lbs second 6 lbs third 8lbs

You have a 420A. Do that to a 4G63 rocker cover and you may hear it crack.

The factory specification for the rocker cover bolts is 2 to 3 ft lbs. Not 4 to 5 or 8.

I think people get way too technical when it comes to certain gaskets. I have had 3 or 4 different valve cover gaskets from ebay to mitsu and they all have sealed flawlessly. Clean the surfaces really good, glob rtv on both side of the gasket (lots on the half moon and the corners), seat the valve cover on the head, use a nut driver and tighten it down, and then wipe off all the excess rtv from the outside. I just don't see why people make such a big deal about a valve cover gasket. :hellyeah:

We only get technical about tightening them. And that's because so many people have broken the cover by being ham fisted with them. There have to be hundreds of threads here by people cracking them.

Use RTV along the corner of the valve cover and use rtv on the bolt here is what my valve cover looks like with the rtv being the color of orange...No leaks or anything..CIMG1012-3.jpg picture by 95gsxguy_2009 - Photobucket I didn't even use a torque reader but I know not to overtighter it..Make sure u keep the grommets for the bolt and if not u can get one at AutoZone. But u can always use rtv to seal the bolts..

So for a while my valve cover leaked and today I changed the gasket, pcv and oil cap. And I now see oil pouring from my wheep hole. What could be the issue. It started after I put on my painted valve cover and oil catchcan due to goin maft and not having the recirc on my intake.

Its not the gaskets its the hole in the front of the valve cover near the timing cover on the front

Check to make sure you didn't overtighten a bolt in that area and caused a crack.

Check the bolts, I had the same problem. But one of my bolts was stripped and was not tight enough.

If you've already tightened it down nice n snug (not overtighten!) without any luck, you might also want to apply a small amount of liquid gasket on the gasket. It's hard to tell immediately if it's still leaking, though, as sometimes the oil seeps out very slowly. So once you've "fixed" it, check it often for at least a few days.

Its not the gasket I rtved the crap out of it already. Its comming from the hole from what I read its due to crankcase pressure but I already have the catchcan on and that vented so... I will host a pic tomorrow

It is in tight but no cracks. I didn't over tighten it tho and one bolt won't get tight but its not near the weep hole

Just make sure there's no cracks in the valve cover. I fought this issue for months trying to trace down an oil leak out of the valve cover. I had just painted it and I either cracked in on the install or the paint I put on covered the crack.

I finally found the leak by looking around the valve cover and revving the motor up at the same time. The pressure inside the head would push it through the hairline crack.

What are the symptoms that your having? Is the oil just coming out during idle or at a higher RPM?

Your lines on your catch can aren't pitched and what not are they? You said you checked the PCV valve, but pull it off and check it again. You are building to much pressure under your cover and it is squeezing itself from the weep hole, if what you say is true that there aren't any cracks.

What the hell is a wheep hole? You have a pcv valve and a non-valved barb.

The lines are fine and the pcv was new yesterday. Also I check for cracks too and it checked out fine. It only happen during high boost runs. Curious, what is the hose that goes from under the battery to the intake. I think my issue lies in the catch can. And the weep hole is a hole that is on a turbo valve cover right in the front next to the timing cover. Its to relieve crankcase pressure so that why oil would come out but why the pressure.

mine did the same thing it was cracked..

did you hear any sounds when you tighten it down? i am 95% sure you cracked it

there's a small hole next to the exh cam gear on the valve cover's side that faces forward that goes through to the plug well... so if a large amount of anything gets filled up in there it will eventually leak out... the weep hole is very small though.
