Ok well i just bought a 91 tsi awd.The problem im having is that there is a oil leak coming from the timing belt side.I think it might be cam seals, but i have a gates timing belt kit on the way.I just bought comp 272 cams new,put egr block off on removed vacum lines just bought greddy bov.Now is there anything else to look for while im changing the timing belt?

Will the 272's do alright with out a tune it seems in the morning when i start the car it wants to idle at 2-3k then after a while it goes too 900 cant figure what that is caused by.I dont have cams installed yet

Thank you for your help

It has been my experiance that most dsm's leak oil from the valve cover gasket before the cam seals. The front crank seal is easy enough to change while your doing you timing belt as are the cam seals. I would check the front balance shaft seal if there is still one in the motor, if not check to make sure there is a bolt in the balance shaft tensioner pulley hole and the plug for the front shaft isn't leaking. Make sure your timing belt tensioner is good and if there is any doubt, replace it.

Your 272's should be fine but you will want to keep an eye on your fuel trims and injector duty cycle to make sure your not running out of fuel.

Your high idle. Is anything un hooked on your throttlebody? Ie the coolant lines to it? If so your fiav is taking longer to close since it has to absorb heat through the intake rather than engine coolant. Also, does it take a long time to warm up? A bad thermostat will keep engine temps low enough to keep it in cold start mode. Hope this helps.

look around the oil pump housing gasket and check for grooves from the old seal on the crank wouldn't hurt to degrease the entire area (since it still runs) befor you disassemble everything so when you take it apart you can see exactly what was leaking so you dont have to do this twice
