Today i put the car on jackstands and started her up. After looking underneath with the engine running @ idle i saw nothing. Revved it a couple times and the dripping began. It is right behind the harmonic balancer where the timing cover meets the block by the oil pan. 92 tsi awd - 6 bolt.

i didnt see any on my timing belt when i took the timing cover off tho, is there any thing else it good be besides front main seal and how hard is the replacing of the front main seal?

ive replaced front seals on other cars, not a 4g63,but basically u would have to remove the crank sprocket ,get the seal out( i just screw a screw into the seal and then use a pliers to pull it out, then i put the new seal on,find an appropriate peice of round plastic(ring shapped,u can get special ring sets for installing seals) that will cover the seal, then whack it back in gentlz, being carefull to drive it in straightly ,and thats basically it...i would consult a haynes or something..maybe u need a special frontseal fitting tool(a plastic ring) .. if u arent familiar with doing such work, have somebody else do it..instead of damaging a new seal in the process....

it could also come from ur oilpump seals...camseals etc..valve cover...u gotta take off that timing belt cover, clean off every thing(use degreaser spray like brake cleaner)put it back together(damn external water pump) let iot run ,then take it appart again ,so u can see excatley where the oil is coming from...

its not the cam seals because i can see them and they werent leaking, is there anyway i can definetly determine where the leak is coming from without removing timing cover? even if i do remove it can i run the motor + check where its coming from?

just make sure that the water pump is running too..the 4g63 water pump is driven off the crank pulley, not off the timing belt...

my tipp! clean it up,take a test drive, pull it apart to see where its coming from...

My guess is the Crush Washer at your Oil Pressure Relief Valve Cap or OFH Gasket? - Somehow a drip at that spot can end up being an Oil leak from LOTS of places - Even when my Turbo Oil Drain Line had a crack in it somehow I had a drip there - Fixed Drain Line - no drip - slight Valve Cover leak - drip there - tightened Valve Cover - no more drip - It's some kinda "low point" on the Motor that gets a drip off almost any leak anywhere so follow the Oil trail if there is one - along the edge of the Oil Pan, etc & make sure it's not a leak somewhere else - Nice clean Motor BTW...

well i know its coming from inside the timing cover because when i crack the cover open i can see the oil oizing out from there. the guy i got it from says its the oil filter housing gasket, im going to check that out soon.
