Ok i have some what of a simple question... If my rea main seal was bad or set wrong (since i have 50 miles on my rebuild) would the oil be all over my flywheel??

I have an extreme oil leak and i thought it might just be my oil pan as there was 7 bolts missing but i bought bolts and placed them back, and it didn't even help a bit! I was thinking cause i didnt replace the oil pan gasket.. if it was the oil pan, the oil that got pushed through the pan and the block broke the seal between the pan and block and even if i bolted it back up it might still push through! (so saying that i will replace my oil pan gasket!)

BUT i was just wondering if my main rear seal was bad where would all the oil be and what not?
Because the oil looks like its dripping from in between the tranny and my block! but i don't really feel or see any oil on my flywheel!
There is no oil on the top of my tranny, but what came out my pv valve hole till i fixed that!
AND theres is no oil on the back of my block that i can feel or see! Telling me that its not a freeze plug!

Can some one please help!

thanks!

i would degrease every thing and then watch the engine oil level and also watch the transmission fluid level as well. it maybe an input shaft seal leak or the rear main seal. If the rear main is leaking then yes you could have oil on your the back of the flywheel. the pan gasket should seal back up unless it is a cork gasket. freeze plugs shouldn't be giving you any oil, just coolant. hope that helps

ahh.. ok!

well ya im going to try and degrease it the best i can then i was going to reseal my oil pan JUST for the extra insurance!
and ill see from there!

im just scared after all the money and the time i have waiting for my car, that the rear seal is out!!
I got all tags and insurance last friday to drive it for an hour and notice i was missing around 3qts of oil!

It sucks to get my car RUNNING after all this work in find something like this! bad day for me!

I think i might have figured out the leak... or at least i know i found where some of its coming...

i cleaned all of the oil i could from under my engine... took my cross member off and cleaned more.. started my car and let it warm up!!
oil slowly started dripping...dripping...dripping and so i crawled under and wiped it as it came in kept following the trail of oil!!

Found a thin crack about an inch long on the top crease of my oil pan next to one of the bolts... its fairly thin but i saw a good amount of oil dipping out of it while the engine was warm!!
Now i could imagine what it looks like while driving under boost and what not!!
i mean we do shot out our dip sticks cause of the crank pressure!!! haha

yeah that was what I was going to suggest to check ,as I fixed mine about a month ago ,thought it was my rear seal also ,but when I pulled the oil pan of I didn,t see a crack ,so I put a light inside the pan while I had it of and turned all the lights out in the garage ,sure enough there was a crack on the corner on the back of the pan ,and another on the front .so I got the mig welder and fixed both of them and now no more oil leaks .:thumb:

I hope your motor is OK after going 3 quarts low! Clean it up real good, sand the area lightly to rough it up a bit and put on some jb quick weld. I've been using this stuff a lot lately.
