Oil in Exhaust Port After New Head Install

The turbo was new and the place where I bought it is giving me the run around. So I will have to see what happens.

Now a few days later nothing. The place I bought it from says it is out of warranty. So now I am looking to buy a turbo. I really don't know what direction I want to go in. I want about 350-500 whp. I think I am going with a different turbo this time. I may end of getting a greddy or garrett. Has anyone had problems with just oil cooled turbos? Any advise would be great.Thanks.

It has been few months of no progess. I bought a brand new turbo from precision turbos. I figured this would fix my problem no it still has oil coming out of the exhaust ports. I can't thinks of anything else. Does any one know how many exhaust studs are in oil or water in the head. I thoguht it was the only one in bottom center stud. any info would be great at this time
thanks

I would pull the oil return line and make sure there isn't some type of blockage. Maybe go back to using an oem one.

The oil return line is new I had to replace it with the new turbo.Iam also out of ideas. Thanks for the sugestions Ill keep checking back.

Have you ever measured the oil pressure since your balance shafts were deleted?

No I haven't but when the motor was fisrt built it never smoked.I was thinking of something with oil pressure.Like I said it never smoked until the turbo died on me then thats when all of this started.

Does anyone else have an Idea what this could be I have talked to a few different people and they are stumped. What I don't understand car never smoked after rebuild and all of sudden the turbos dies and I am have all these issues.

Did u say the head was pressure checked when it was off? Im going to do this to mine soon. I have different issues though.

Yeah the head was pressure tested so I was told. I might think it might be high oil pressure. I am going to check that this weekend.

I didn't put any coolant in the car it ran for about 10 seconds then I shut it off. I wanted to see if it was going to smoke or not. If it didn't smoke I would have put some in the car.

i say run it longer with coolant so you water pump is lubericated. it could just be extra oil coming past the piston rings because they haven"t seated yet. my volvo did the samething after the rebuild, i pushed the automatic to the extreme abuse and it works much better and no smoke now, of course i did this when it was at operating temperature

Well an update on my car did an oil pressure test. I am see 115 pso on start up. I am going to prt my ofh and relocate the turbo line as I was told. Then I am going to run the car for a while.

wow that is some high pressure! Let us know how you end up lowering it.

That was checked at the oil filter housing, so I think that is helping push oil pass the rings also the rings really never set fully. I reconnected the line on the vc to the air intake also cleaned out the pcv. So I am going to put that on this weekend and let the car run for a while to see what happens.

Well car updated didn't get a chance to start the car yet hopefully doing it this weekend. If this dones work any other suggestion on what could be the problem? One more question if the motor sat for a while without running do the rings need to be reseated even though there is 300 miles or so on the bottom end?

Rings are seated only once. Now if it sat for a while with the head off and kinda rusted the cylinder walls up, it is possible the rings are stuck. Broke rings will do something simular, especially under boost, usually there is a slight miss thats goes along with that though.

I thought of that but all four doing the same thing? I am going to run it for a while and see what happens.

Well new update on the car. I replace the ofh and lowered the oil pressure. Seemed to help out a little car still has a little oil coming from the exhaust ports. The smoking went down quit a bit but still smoking. I have been running the car for a while it still hasn't improved much but not getting any worse. I am really stuck on what else to check. Any other suggestions. Thanks

Don't know if it's already been discussed but maybe get the block magnafluxed. (?)

They are brand new.

Also these pictures were taken after I cleaned(w/ break clean) some of the oil off the block. I am going to double check the torque on the bolts on the headstuds. Is it possible to have good compression and have the oil leak through the hg?
It isn't possible to have good compression and oil coming out somewhere. did you check or have the head re surface or checked for straightness? Its internal Valve seals........

On another not the factory uses composite hg for a reason. the block isn't 100% true and the composite style helps aid in the sealing for production purposes. To install a 4 layer metal hg your head and block much be 99-100% level. Some one correct me if I'm wrong thanks

Well the head was rebuilt and the motor was just rebuilt and the surfaces where both decked also I replaced the 4 layer metal hg with a composite. The head has all new parts and so do the bottom end.

Bronze guides are for RACING engines only, they WILL allow oil past them but have the advantage of lower friction, on a racing engine that only runs 1/4 mile at a time its not a problem.
