so i went to take my oil filter off my talon tonight to change the oil and it will not budge. i used the oil filter wrench, channle locks, and the screw driver trick and nothing, now the filter is kinda tore up and to the point where the bottom just has the part where it screws on the ofh anyone have any tricks to get this damn thing off

Bigger muscles.

If the thing is already mangled, grab it with vice grips and tear that sucker out - minding the threads of course.

Another thought, if you have time for this would be to epoxy or JB weld a lever (wood, an old wrench, part of a broom stick...) to the filter so you can use the increased leverage to break it loose. Maybe do it tonight and come back to it in the morning? I did this on an old honda once and it worked great.

...first oil change since the car rolled off the dealer lot or what?!? haha. :p
heres what i got when my oil filter decided it didn't want me to change the oil...

haha wow is right im gonna go grap those pliers tomorrow after work see if that will do it this is all i need to do to finish the car haha how sad is that...the hardest part is getting the filter off

thermite?...i was also thinking about useing my gas torch the kind they use for plumbing and heat the fliter up good on the metal and use the channles locks and just pull it off when the metal is pliable. Think this would work anyone or is it a bad idea?

I work at a oil change place and the best thing to get and use is a oil band wench not the pliers that was shown those will crush a filter more. And when you use the band wrench put it at the back of the filer where it meets the houseing. The filer is much stronger there.

well the filter is all tore up and the oil wrench i have and used just bent the filter in....

? Vise Grips ? I was going to recommend a chain/strap wrench, but since you've mangled the can of the filter, why I now recommend a pair of vise grips to get the remainder off.

That filter must have been on there a long time for it to weld itself to the housing...

You tried stabbing a screw drive throught both sides and turning it?? That's the last thing I do when I can't get the filter off and I always works... but you have to get through boths sides cause if not you'll just tear it up!

Goodluck man.

Get yourself one of these. Thats all I use especially on DSMs since there is more space available.

Use it at the base of the filter, where the flange mounts on the filter. You probably mangled it because you strapped it on the middle of it.

Try using this with a glove wrapped over the filter, works like a charm

I doubt theres enough filter left to use those :p.

I use fram filters, outers are pretty heavy duty and have this grippy black stuff for grip, also when you put a new filter on, use a little oil on the seal, and you dont have to strong arm a new filter on, or put one on with a wrench, jsut get it tight with your hands.

haha i got it off man. about a half a bottle of pentrating fluid and a screw drive and hammer

i put the screw driver in one of the smaller holes in the filter where the filter screws onto the ofh, and then sprayed a bunch of penatrating fluid into another one of the holes. Then slowly tapped the end of the screw driver with the hammer till it budged. Needless to say this next one wasnt nearly as tight LOL

The last time I changed my oil was after my B/S elim. and I dont know why but it was stuck on worse than it ever had been. Used the chain filter wrench and it just bent the crap out of the filter and squeezed it. Got a hammer and started tapping an edge that the chain created...didnt budge.

Punched a screwdriver through it and it wouldnt turn. So I went at it again with the hammer and beat the shit out of it. After that I grabbed it with some channel locks and beat it with a hammer and it finally started to turn.

Oh yea and I used a LOT of yelling and cussing...that helped as well.
