My oil filter is stuck.. BAD

I tried hammering a screw driver through it and pulling but that didnt work this time and made a massive hole.. From doing that over and trying to get it out.. The whole filter is tore up.. I dont have a tool to pull it either.. One is too small and the other wont grip..

Any ideas?

Its torn up pretty bad.

Shane

A big pair of Channel lock pliers to grab it. Get ones with a 3" jaw or bigger!

If you woundn't have already destroyed the filter you could have bought and oil filter socket like in the second pic below

If you can't get the channel locks on there, then tear the filter apart. You'll be left with the bottom end and the threading. Cut the threading or get the pliers on that and break it free. Heat works wonders also.

Next time buy a K and N filter, they have a cool bolt head thing on the top so you can take it off with a wrench or socket.

or just dont put it on so damn tight LOL

you know you should put some oil on the seal before you put the new on one right? and it does not have to be super tight on there.

Had to do that to a coworkers 350Z in the stores parking lot. He had torn the whole thing off except for the base. Not fun but I was able to man handle it off that way.

Yup. Nothing but HP1010's for me. If my filter does so happen to get too tight, 1" closed end wrench and poof, it's off.

+1. Put the oil and don't over tighten it. If you do, you risk smashing your OFH's water adapter and then you will have coolant and oil mixing :notgood:.

What??? I have never heard of the water adapter smashing and breaking.. LOL If your tightening it that tight then your obviously tightening too much!

You still have that heap of crap on your car? Yes - the stock oil cooler on '91+ is the worst oil cooler design I have ever seen. If you overtighten the middle bolt, you can crush the passages and mix the fluids. If it gets too loose, you can dump all your oil and have a bad day. The first thing I do is throw that heap in the garbage and toss on the '90 cooler.

I just got the car.. First oil change..

Still cant get this thing off.. Also, i must of hit some sort of coolant line above the filter (from looking under the car).. I have a drip of coolant coming down every 13-15seconds......

Worst oil change ever..

Take your belt off. wrap it around. Put the lock part on the other side to make it nice and tight, then pull towards you as hard as you can.

Ummm...this is insane for a freakin oil change.
I've done my oil since I got my licsense and I've never had any problem like this..
Don't over tighten it, hand tight and that should be plenty.
Good luck.

Yeah.. go for the K&N filters or Fram.. and line the seal with oil. In the meantime get a strapwrench. You will not regret it.
