Oil drain tube leaks at oil pan! My bad!

1/4 x 20 is the SAE dia and pitch, your stock bolt should be 6 x 1.00mm and that is metric

yes the 1/4 x 20 is just a hair larger than the 6x1.00MM

I am agree with BogusSVO, just use a thicker bolt and call it a day, you might not even bother replacing the oil pan....

Just make sure to use copper washers on the bolts for a better seal and not to tight the bolt to much.

the crush washers i need, are those a 14mm? i am currently not using any crush washers. bolts and gasket only.

No.

They are 6mm crash washers.

They are hard to find, But if you are lucky, the dealer can stock some of them.

The dealers close of my area didn't have any, They had to order them.

Call Mitsu. and ask for Part # MF660031 , ,,,,

When you use the crash washers, Make sure to use bare bolts, (not washers in the bolt),

If you use a bolt with a washer AND the crash washer..... It not going to seal well.
The head of the bolt needs to make contact with the crash washer for a better seal.

Good luck finding the part.

forced performance has them, i just cant justify ordering washers over the internet LOL, im sure the hardware store would have something similar? but worst case i can order from FP thanks!

I Tapped the oil pan the other day and it was actually a 1/2x28 which is a fine thread. 1/4X20 is a coarse thread. Well it still leaks just not nearly as bad. I'm going to try some different things when i install the new turbo it might just be a crappy thin gasket at this point.

Why do I get the feeling that post #14 was missed? :p The standard 20 pitch thread is very similar to a metric 1.00. A 1/4 x 20 is similar enough to a 6 x 1.00 that you don't even need to tap for new threads. Unless it's stripped real bad the slightly larger 1/4" bolt should screw right in. But I only recommend this as a temporary fix if someone's in a bind.

Even stock bolts with undamaged threads will leak past the threads if crush washers aren't used. If the threads aren't stripped REAL bad I would try a 1/4" with 20 thread pitch bolt. You won't need to tap new threads. Use a new oem drain tube to pan gasket and 1/4" copper crush washers between bolt head and flange. Personally, I wouldn't use JB Weld or RTV.

Using a finer pitch thread won't fix the leak. Our "through bolt" into the oil pan design is going to allow the oil to creep its way along the bolt threads. Hence, the crush washers. If you can't find metric crush washers then a 1/4" crush washer will work just fine.

BTW, I hope that "1/2 x 28" was just a typo.:)

haha yes it was 1/4 x28 i do have crush washers, still leaks a little bit just not nearly as bad

found some copper crush washers at ACE, it doesnt leak as bad but there is some oil i can see around the seal, i have heard that putting a piece of leather under the washer would help create good contact and also would expand when it sucks up oil creating a better seal. i will look more into this when i do the t4 oil drain tube.
