Oh no! I think I bought a 420a w/turbo, not a GS-T!!!!

Well....if it is a GS with an aftermarket turbo, you could still call it a GS-T. j/k.....sorry about your luck man, but you shoulda definitely checked under the hood, did a free carfax report, or talked to a buddy that knows something about Eclipses. I had a 420A Eclipse before my 4G63.....and I don't think I'll be missing the 420A anytime soon.......if it means anything, I hope you have the best of luck with the car. Hope things turn out well.:thumb:

Well I did check under the hood, did a carfax report and had a mechanic do a compression test and check the free play of the crank (read post!!). I have never seen a turbo motor before so I didn't know that piping looked aftermarket (I knew the intake & exhaust was) but that's all. I lurked here before I bought it and from what I read a high wing, white gauges, & turbo = GST. I probably saw some some engine pics but they weren't sticking in my head when I checked out the car.

Oh well at least I have a good running car and didn't pay to much for it.

i am working on an RST project 420a Turbo, as long as you do all the important stuff you should be fine with the 420a turbo, if you want 300 horse power then get a 4g63t, ithe 420a turbo motors are safe with boost from 200-250 horse power without touching the bottom end, all long as you have a higher psi fuel pump, slightly bigger injectors, FMIC would help but if you at least have a SMIC you are fine with 8psi, its when u get to 1bar or more you are looking at some damage... just my $.02, i like the 420a they are very good with low amountd of boost (6-8psi)

Oh dear lord. It's a damn cigar manifold. Gawd it sucks.

What turbo is on it? If the guy explicitly told you it was a GS-T from the factory, then sue his ass. If not, you are screwed.

The funny thing is, the hard part is already done for you. The turbo is in.

I don't see what the problem is really its turbo. Much less prone to crankwalking. Good shape low mileage. If you want to make more power you can always build up the bottom end if the previous owner hasnt already.

I still think its an excellent upgrade from your maxima, I know I wouldnt mind driving a turbo 420a one bit. :thumb:

Yeah I've decided I'm going to keep the car, it is in good shape and runs good. It's definately not an upgrade from the Maxima though. If I can find another 5 speed 99 Max I will buy it and sell this car. Maybe not as tunable but there are guys gettin 13.9 NA with all the bolt on mods that are available, turbo guys are lower. The Max just seemed put together a lot better, and more bottom end torque. Damn I wish I never crashed that car.

I'd sell the turbo kit, slap a stock manifold and whatever else back on and then sell the car as a GS. You're not gonna get as much for it as you paid, but at least you can get some cash back to get another Maxima. All the fun is replacing stock parts with aftermarket ones. If you can make up what you lost for getting screwed, do what you can to get what you really want. Nothing sux more than driving something that you hate when you went out of your way to buy it. It then turns to resentment...

I owned a 420A before my GSX, and even though my X is faster I would trade it all back if it was turbo. With any luck you have the HAHN kit and not the Star. If you are DAMN lucky you got the 20G. I think that you will find that your new GS-T will kick the shit out of your maxima. The low-end may not be so great but when the turbo spools, come on it dont feel like no maxima.
HEY AT LEAST THE ECLIPSE ON TE FAST & FURIOUS WAS A 420A!!!!!!

It's a Hahn Stage 2 kit. And get this, 2.5" full exhaust system (he told me he only put the muffler on), I do plan on swapping it out for a 3" though, the cars still running perfectly and I am get 210 compression on all the cylinders. I do enjoy this car. If I went back to a Maxima I would be paying more a month in payments, and in insurance. Don't get me wrong this cars not slow, and since I planned on modding it anyway I can now just upgrade the internals, and turn up the boost :thumb:

Heres a thought....

1) I don't know about your State laws, but in California a dealer can NOT turbo charge a N/A car a re-sell it, for it will not pass SMOG out here. The dealer would get screwed in court so maybe its worth your while to look into that if you want out.

2) Is an Eclipse GS worth 12k?

3) If you question the vehicle, talk to a lawyer and see what your options are. If you question it now try to get out of it. It truely sounds like a bait-n-switch if they didn't disclose that it was a N/A that has aftermarket parts added.

Just my thoughts. I wish you the best of luck either way.

Well I bought it from an individual, I did talk w/a lawyer and he said from all the costs of going to court the only thing I would probably be able to do is return the car and get my money back. I bought this car because I had looked everywhere for a 5 speed Maxima, or older year BMW but couldn't find one. After 2 months of searching with no car I found this deal and bought it. I'm actually really starting to like the car, and as I said have had absolutely 0 problems with it. Hey at least it's the OZ edition so I have the OZ rims, sunroof, leather, keyless entry, alarm, and every other option that was on the GSX, all with only 31,000 miles.

That's actually sounding pretty sweet. I followed this thread back when you got the car, and I'm glad it's working out for you.

One observation - don't bother with a bigger exhaust unless the rice factor is important to you. 2.5" is more than big enough for your application, and you'd do better spending the money on a bigger intercooler or a nice weekend vacation. 8)

Whats wrong with a 420a? You dont want higher compression? what would win guys? an stock 98 GST or a RS with a Hanh stage two turbo kit? Ummm.... I think the 420a. 9.6 vs 8.5. ummm.... yeah

couldn't you tell it was like driving a cavalier?
either way, sorry to hear about that man

The lateral G figure can be explained by the different tires on the NA. NA got the narrowest, GS-T got slightly wider, GSX were the widest (from the factory).

All 1999 Eclipses came with the turbo wing, as well as white guages. Those were prolly not aftermarket guages and the wing was factory. All he did was put on the exhaust and turbo. I feel bad that you got scammed a little, but u definately need to do some more research.

You had 2 months to find a car, and the best you found was a 99 "GS-T" for 12 grand?

They most certainly did not. None of the RS's came with the "turbo" spoiler or white gauges. And I have only seen 3 GS's with the rear spoiler and white gauge combo.

Actually, I'm not surprised. Ever since F&F, DSM's in general have been in short supply. If you can find one, even the beat up cars are going for inflated prices. They were cheaper 3 years ago!
