oem vs vader hood

Here my dilema, my oem cf hood needs clear coat bad, i want a vent to help clear heat.

Option one reclear the oem, get a rre vent installed, might be cheaper idk how much to clear coat, but i will have to cut into my hood which is sketchy

option two pick up this vis hood for a good price, good condition, already vented, clear coat is good. Does need to be cut for hood latches and drilled for mounting.

The oem hood looks great and bad ass with the vent also keeps an oem apperence. The vis hood is functional and looks very aggressive. Assuming the price is close i have no idea which one i want, any ideas?

Personally i really like the second one, but when it rains does it go right on top of your valve cover,exhaust manifold and turbo?

It looks like it would be right over the manifold which would be a problem for both situations but i think as long as im not letting the car sit too long in the rain/ snow i should be alright..right?

I'm not the biggest fan of aftermarket hoods but that one looks good and it is the one that is available to me right now so it's that or the oem with the rre vent. ^^so its an A or B type situation if you could, thanks

I don't like either one. You can cut vents in the hood and still have it look decent. No need to go all Uncle Bens with the whole thing

I never realized how anal people were with basically every visual aspect of these cars. i thought it was just the lambo doors . i've personally always thought am hood scoops were cool, but not a fan of the vader i personally think you should re clear/vent the oem

The RRE vent is the only thing that looks decent on a DSM in my opinion. It you use a metal hood you could design your own vent.

Do you need to lose the cam gear cover to run the vader hood? I know some hoods that lose the bump require that. Personally I would never run without it despite the anecdotes of "I do it and I'm fine!". One small rock and you're ####ed.

I'd just get the 18" vent from RRE and install it. It's not that hard to do. Just get some black rivets and you're set.

The fact that it wasn't hacked up and slapped with an eBay 2gb bumper like everyone else. The fact that it obviously still has the factory paint, the fact that it's been Brembo'd, the EVO wheels...

I'd call that clean (minus the hood).

My OEM was well trashed. Thus the reason for the Vader hood. I honestly don't know if you can run a timing cover. Mine is an early '95 so it has the weird 3 piece timing cover. I only have the bottom part of it. so if I put the top on there is still a gap between the two and looks retarded. The paint I know has cancer, the door trim you can hardly find good ones any more, guess I could skimp and paint them. The lights are my fault.. I need to hit them with some stove top cleaner, but with HID's it doesn't really matter at night. Honestly looks are the least of my problems I would rather go fast first. If I was going for looks I would buy a '99 swap the 2ga front and rear and spend 5,000 on a paint job.

I like Evo style hoods. Not sure about the Vader, I think OEM always looks better than anything aftermarket. If the hood just needs a new coat of clear, buy a bunch of spray can clear and a good buffer.

I would always choose to go fast than to go for looks as well. My black is fading also especially on the wing where the clear coat is coming off but thanks for tax time, the black parts are being repainted next week as well as my side skirts. They don't match the rest of the car correctly.

I know that my hood was a nasty green and becoming faded every where along with the car body.
I got some black spray, sanded the thing down, primered it, added black, some clear coat and it looks fine.

I would go with the stock look you can sand the clear coat with 1,600 grit wetsand and get the clearcoat resprayed.

I never had any problems with that although I do carry a cover for the holes when it rains real bad. However, I never leave it open vented in the snow no matter how light or heavy its snowing.

Idk my problem with the above design would be that on our cars that would be close to the battery and the belts. Oh and what does thewhole "Uncle Bens with the whole thing mean"?

You don't have to follow that design, you can cut out what ever you want. However, you've got to use your noggin a bit. You're going to have to beat the underside edges of the hood frame down if you cut through them, while they are cut you are going to have to prevent the hood from warping in any way too so be careful.
