So I just installed a new clutch and PP(XTD stage 4 unsprung) and was trying to adjust it because i wasnt getting and peddle pressure. I would bleed the system and then have pressure, then like 15 min later no peddle. figured it had to be something with the master or slave...sure enough the boot for the master was wet with fluid... long story short im pretty sure i need to replace the master. I want to replace both but dont feel like shelling out the money for OEM.
The question i am putting out there is why is the aftermarket master and slave not recommended?

the master doesnt have a boot on it. the master cylinder is by the brake booster. if theres a boot and on the tranny than thats your slave cylinder. usually when you replace 1 the other 1 is going out so its better to replace both at the same time or soon after. ive always went with part store for the master and slave no issues for me

I know what "boot" you're talking about. I bought a master from NAPA Last winter when my master blew (it was -52 outside). I've gone through an entire year with it in really harsh weather and it's holding fine. i did change the factory lines with SS braided from master straight to slave to release some of the pressure on the system.

I am running an aftermarket master and slave cylinder, the only difference is the push rod on the master cylinder is slightly shorter. but it drives fine. the slave cylinder is identical to the OEM one.

I run a after market one no problems oem prices for that thing no way, oem on my car tob, tensioner and pulleys thats about it. I changed everything on my dsms over years and local auto store parts have done just fine but everyone will have a opionon.

OEM will never go wrong, if you're lucky go to the junkyard and see what you find.

Nice choice on the clutch btw, you'll like it :thumb:

I wouldn't suggest a junkyard slave or master considering they really aren't expensive anyway. I believe rockauto had an OEM slave for like $17 plus shipping for the AWD 1g's. Can't remember for sure if that was OEM or not though...

unfortunately, i didnt have such good luck with XTD's clutch kit. it took me like almost 3 months to get my money back from the guy..but anywho, hope you have better luck than i did. why not just buy the rebuild kit for the master cylinder? its like $10 or so and takes like...5 min at the most to rebuild one. i did mine a year ago and it's help up perfectly fine.

Or get another fairy cheap compared to a oem, mine have lasted for years on one car. Its up to youre looking for opionons but in the end its your money.

If you have any clutch other than stock aftermarket part store master and slaves might work for you. But if you have something like an act 2600 they will fail, its just a matter of time. Go OEM and save yourself some headaches later on down the road, its not like you will be replacing these often.

I have an ACT 2100 and a stainless line from master to slave. I bought both my master and slave cylinders from a parts store and they both work fine.

Couldn't have said it better myself... OEM
