It's used in automatic transmissions. I'm unsure of its exact purpose, however.

Ok, that makes sense. I just looked at the auto trans I have and see it now. Does the ecu read the temps at all or just set to turn on the light when it overheats?

So turbosax, any idea on what sensor was/is used for the t-case temp light on the cluster?

its the automatic temp sensor.. my question is.. what the min and max resistance.. im working on looging it??? intead of buying a $70 autometer sensor.

The FSM calls out the service specifications as follows:
0.57-0.69 ohms at 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
16.7-20.5 kiloohms at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
