odd turbo spool sound

occasionally when my turbo spools up at higher rpms it makes an odd humming noise. when this happens there also seems to be a loss of power. im pretty sure its not a leak because it only happens occasionally after driving for a while. anyone have any ideas of what would cause this or have similar problems

sure you already checked it, but have you checked the shaft play?/ boost leaks?. What your describing kind of sounds like whats happening to mine, but for some reason it only does it in first gear?

I've had something similar happen to me. Check the turbo compressor wheel shaft for end play (left/right or in/out). You might need a new turbo gasket and/or as always check for boost leaks which seems to be the #1 fix for just about anything...relatively speaking.

x2 on the turbo shaftplay, and checking for boost leaks is never a bad idea either.
