    I was wondering this aswell...

Ebay has a few of the Quaife Knockoffs (OBX) that are being listed for the 2G GST.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-HELICAL-LSD-DIFFERENTIAL-ECLIPSE-GST-95-99-4G63-DSM_W0QQitemZ370176964395QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item370176964395&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A1171|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

The part number for the 420a appears to be LSD9599 but the ones for the GST aren't listed.

Anyone have any luck on if these will actually fit a 2gb?

i was wondering if anybody who has run any of the lsd inserts has any input as to whether it helped signigficantly.Im lookin to hook a little better in the 1/4 mile and how has the car responded alot of people seem to have bad things to say about it. Im on the brink of weather i should do v3 upgrade or sbr lsd insert.

I have one. It's a piece of crap. It still one-wheel peels. I just received my WaveTrac LSD, which is a real helical gear-type. Don't waste your money.

I was also looking into lsd inserts, finally decided that it wasn't worth the risk. Do a search and you'll see, I also talked to some reputable dsmer's around town and they all said the same thing, "don't risk it".

Get some prothane motor mounts (or just window weld them) and maybe some equal length axles if you really need help putting power to the ground. But by the looks of your profile motor mount mods should be enough for a 14b. Usually enough for a 16g also unless it's on meth or e-85.

i should probably update my profile LOL i have my motor out for 6 bolt swap and ive got act 2600 on street disk with a 20g that i plan on pushing to around 23-25 psi and even i 14b i have alot of wheel spin so i was trying to cut out some of the wheel spin on the bigger turbo and i was thinking lsd on a set of sticky tires should have done it but if you guys are still only doing 1 wheel peels its not worth my time to split the case open

If you have all that, no sense in skimping by buying a sh**ty LSD. I don't see it as a "risk", but more of a piece of crap that doesn't work.

Im going to try SBR's insert, I know its risky but I dont care really. Tranny is still stock, if I was having it built I'd have to go with a Quaife or something alot better than an insert. For now I'll trust itll do its job.

Speaking to them (which you can take at face value) they tried breaking their LSD at over 500whp and it still worked and didnt explode. Like I said though who knows, Ill give it a try...

Do you only track use your car? I'd hate even the thought of a tranny blowning up on the highway due to half assed job etc

How bout the TRE RipGrip dif? Comes with a warranty and they say it holds up well. It looks priced very good, too.
You could install the Honda lsd for free. Roll backwards a bit while youre launching:thumb:

Im still on the border about doing the insert. I think im going to call up tre or shep trans on monday and see what they have for a thought on it. i see that shep trans sells them and installs them and he usually doenst put bad parts in his trannys.

Shep doesnt recommend them, but will install them. He will most likely tell you its up to you but "dont risk it" also. I already spoke to him.

I cant see how the LSD would explode on highway driving, they are not always locked so most likely would only break during a launch. But thats when theres all the pressure on the trans anyways...

Either way he'll probably do what ever you want him to do depending on what your budget. If you can't afford a real LSD then you don't really have much of an option but an insert, huh? Else wait and save up to get a real LSD.

I've been running the Phantom Grip insert in my FWD since 2004. It actually works better than I thought it would.

During straight line acceleration both wheels hook up.

Accelerating out of a turn the inside wheel will spin briefly before it starts to hook up.

Overall impression: Of course it's not as effective as a true LSD. But for the money it's not a bad option and will provide some benefit vs. an open diff.

Can't comment regarding longevity of tranny or potential damage. As far as I know it hasn't destroyed/damaged anything yet. However, I also don't do any really hard launches and I'm not putting a whole lot of power down.

Well I have 20,000 miles on a cheap lsd and have had no problems. Few hundred lauches and a welded center diff. Just my input. And I understand some of you guys are fwd too.

I think what wears out the gears and cross shaft with an insert is normal driving, not racing. When you drive in the street, especially the highway, both of the front wheels are never turning at perfectly the same speed, so the front diff gears are always in motion. It may be very slow, but they are moving around. Plus, the front diff is turning at a high rate of speed on the high way, so oil is moved away from the center giving the spider gears and cross shaft even less oil. The way the inserts work is they put metal-to-metal contact and pressure on the gears inside the diff. When they are moving the insert is slowly chewing away at the gears and cross shaft. Some get lucky and it doesn't explode and total their tranny for a long time, others are not so lucky. I personally don't like them and don't recommend them. I have yet to drive a car with one that feels like it works at all and the destruction I have seen from them is just scary. My brother was tuning a car for a friend on the street with one and it let go. The whole area around the front diff just blew out from under the car and he was lucky not to have lost control. I have some pics of some badly worn cross shafts and spider gears lying around here somewhere. If I find them I will post them.

What really gets me about these inserts is many have failed on people, but they never post about it, so you rarely hear anything negative about them. The people that have gotten lucky and still have a working trans talk about how great they are.

Thanks for the info Jack. It's nice to have the input of a professional with first hand experience.:thumb:

I've been thinking about the Quaife for a long time. Time to start saving up.:)

After tearing my trans down to change out diffs, I will agree with this. The gears in the diff were begining to wear out. I'll post some pics if anyone wants to see.

I'll let you know. It seems there are strong arguments for and against using an insert. Since I was sending the tranny out of my Laser to TRE for a rebuild, I decided to go ahead and have them put a RipGrip LSD insert in. This way I can try both and compare. I already have a Kaaz in my Talon that does great.

I am still sure that a real LSD is going to be far superior to just using an insert. However, maybe an insert will work well enough for those on a budget.:hmm:

+1. I'd still like to see those pictures also.
