type LSD's suck as opposed to the clutchy type KAAZ.. well geneius.. the QUAFE is a Torsen LSD! in fact Torsen is actually a Quaife trademark.. see: http://www.houseofthud.com/differentials.htm for details

The whole thing is called a "Torsen" system as in "Torque Sensing" (Torsen is actually a Quaife trademark, and the more generic term is Torque Biasing Differential or TBD) because it instantly reacts to torque imbalance transferring power to the wheels that can use it most. There's a difference between the two main torsen diffs.

your WONDERFUL article is about how a clutch type LSD such as the KAAZ is better than a Torque Biasing Differential like the quafe..

it has absolutly nothing to do, or says nothing about the phantom grip or BMT LSD INSERTS



and if you think they are talking about the pahntom grip or BMT...

It was to post about a good LSD, and not for us to hear your story of how you cant afford a Quafe and use the inserts instead. Now I am not sayin your inserts are crap or the Quafe is Godlike cuz I never tried either, but perhaps IAMCLP3201 rather buy expensive stuff first and cheaper later. Its a lot easier to save 500 bucks for a 16g or 250 for a downpipe than a 1000 for a "TRUE" LSD. Now get of the Hator-ADES and ill see you in the thread "Oh Sh!t the teeth on my tranny!!" thread

Torsen unit is a different type of lsd that works different, doesn't use clutch packs like the kaaz, and I belive quaiffe sells these units. The torsen is a nice unit, good for road racing. You are right, it makes a night and day difference between the stock open diff and BMT or Phatom. If i didn't have a LSD from factory, the bmt or phantom would be a good option to do, but I doubt it the would of made it for my car anyways.


Whoever said that they are making 300hp and blew their differential, what actually went wrong, just wondering. Maybe it wasn't install right. Maybe you were one of those unlucky one that their spyder gears broke.

The bmt and phamton is not a full locker, like a spool, it will slip under certain conditions. Why don't people go with the LSD unit from the awd's? Didn't they come with them in japan, or are they hard to find? I don't know much about what it sold for dsm's, just making a suggestion.

Another thing, maybe Wobble can save the extra 800 for something in the future, you know, engine, coughcrankwalkcough, ....that's it for me now

(not fun.. damn headlights! )

My goals are mid-high 12's, I dont really want anything full out. My tranny is fine and all of the stuff inside of it looked good so there was no need to replace it. The only reason why I put all of that in (the Quaife and the 2600) was because I smoked my stock clutch... So since it was all out I might as well add something a little more.

Cheap? i hate spearco cores. They are too restrictive to let the air flow thru it so the radiator gets air. I don't know about the spearco core, it doesn't look like it, but I never seen a griffin core. The core was bought from cartech, even talked to corky bell himself. So i don't know what they use. How much are griffin cores?

yea i bet your stock tranny is fine, for stock power.. but your mid 12s out of a FWD with that quafe getting the power to the wheels is gonna make your fine tranny really un-fine pretty quick..



if nothing else replace your shift rods with some TRE ones, they are only $80 and the ends are MUCH better than the cast crap that is stock, its well worth it for sure.. assuming you have the trans apart, i wouldent pull it just to do that though..

That core he has was on a car that ran 12.8@114mph. So i wouldn't call it cheap. Talking about the spearco design, they didn't do a good job on how air travels thru for the radiator. It's a very restrictive design, i'm a rx7 guy, so all the air that needs to get to the radiator is a big thing. The car that he got the IC now has the Greddy crore on it. The RType24 one.

12.8 is nothign to a dsm these days. every core sucks with getting air to the rad its just something you have to deal with.

Where in the hell did i say the spearco cores were crappy? Spearco is not my choice of cores, i rather go with other ones outhere. Ones that let the air flow better for the radiator, I'm not just wanting to do 1/4 miles times, I'm looking for autox, road racing, were overheating becomes an issue, and the more air the radiator gets, the better. I'm no noob, i've been modding imports since 1996, were most of the stuff wan't really available and it was mostly a trial and error thing.
