Anybody using a Phantom Grip LSD???

Interesting post.

The Kazz version seems to be very similar to the standard ctuch style LSD that came in quite a few GM RWD vehicles. I had said unit in my TA with great sucess. With my Formula I installed a Zexel torsion unit (your Quaife unit) I have found that it is common to over power the unit and spin the inside tire.. which was not true with the old GM version.

There is a reason the Quaife version is so expensive: production cost. Helical gears are not cheap to make. Said style posi does typicly last longer than the clutch version though. I am sure that the Quaife posi is a very nice unit but I bet the Phantom Grip has very similar positive affects... but as ALWAYS... you get what you pay for.

I do not recommend that peice of mild steel to anyone ever, except a honda or a nonturbo.

1. I had it, Installed by TRE. FULL Rebuild tranny
2. I had the Joy of sending a Tranny back to TRE.

The phantom grip works by pushing the gears toward the outside of the diff case to effectively lock the diff. All the pressure and heat created has to go somewhere. it is absorbed into the thrust bearings, then the waer away to nothing and after the break-in period your spider gears will absorb all that heat, and then they decide to leave the diff by way way of rapid deployment toward the bellhousing. This wasnt on a green or a 16g or a 14b. IT was a T-25 with intake and 3" exhaust with dsmlink.

I launched at 4000 on street tires and blew the diff. with 1200 miles on a new tranny. if i would have been smart i would have bought the quaife. when it come to Trannys only the best will do.

What about the BMTranny unit?? Its relatively inexpensive and seems to be better than the phantom crap.

Its only 200 bucks!

it doesnt matter who makes it. its the idea behind the limited slip conversions.
You cant make a open differentioal into a limited slip with out welding it. those plate may last a few thousand miles but they will stripp all the gears of you diff. save your money and buy a real diff. quaife kaaz cusco,

Dave

I just installed the BM-tranny lsd unit and am very happy with it, it's eliminated all torquesteer in 1st, and 90% of it in 2nd gear, it really only starts to torquesteer now at about 6000rpm in 2nd (only slightly). i am using a t3/t4 50 trim .63ar combo at 20psi on yokohama a539 235 17 45's. i recommend getting one, i'm very impressed with it. i got it thru turbotrix.
