i am not happy with the responses i got when i asked how to do a cas install, only one person replied and he said just hardwire it. thats not what i want to do i wanna put the one in that plugs in can anyone help
 
The 90 has a lot of parts that don't coincide with the other years. First off though it will help you greatly if you do some of your own research, a lot of people won't help with simple questions, it's kinda like saying, "we help those who help themselves" I understand your frustration though and not bashing, just saying you can't be spoon fed everything, I know for a fact there are over 100 threads on the CAS on this forum, I'm sure you could have found your answer in many of them. Either way, I have some suggestions that will help you for the future:

1. Buy a haynes manual.
2. Learn these websites:

are you talking about installing a new one or doing a rewire on an older one? I feel your pain about getting next to no replies. I get that all the time and I'm getting it right now. thats why I try to help others where I can, because I would want the same from them. so give me a little more description of what you want.
 
the new CAS should have a new plug in, so just put the CAS into it's respective hole, bolt it in (2 bolts on the studs) and plug in the connection. if it doesn't start, you might have to flip the CAS 180 degrees and try it again.

Its not going to hurt anything just get it timed right its just like watching a v8 guy guess a million times in a row on which way the distributor needs to be facing except its even easier and im not an idiot i do all the maintance on my car except the tune!! Just because im new to the site doesnt meen i dont know my crap. Oh and if it takes a couple of trys just change the oil in and the spark plugs if that puts u at ease dude then your set!!!

Do as said above, you adjust it by turning it side to side to set the timing.
 
It's not just a bolt on matter. You have to set your timing to top dead canter and then on the cas there are 2 alignment marks that you line up in order to slide it in the head. as long as everything is lined up your good.

It will help if you make a mark somehow where the old one is sitting now, so that you'll be able to put the new one back in the exact same place. A permanent marker will work fine and will burn off quickly.

Once you do it you'll be like, "oh, that was easy"
 
Your not getting any responses because its one of the easiest things you can do. If you cant figure basic wiring out on your own, I would look into a new hobby. I mean, jesus, there is only a +, -, and signal wire (s) on the thing. Stop being lazy and actually use your brain.
 
yes, you use a timing light and treat it just as you would a distributer. because that's pretty much what it is. if you have an advance dial on your timing light you can use the timing marks on your cam gears to set the timing. base timing is 5* the guide should be in the VFAQ forums.
 
i know its not hard i never said it was. i just didnt know anything about doing the cas. and do i use a timing light for anything

If the timing is already set you don't need a timing light, just look at the angle where the current cas is, and put the new one at the same angle. Don't worry you won't blow anything up, worse thing that will happen is your idle will be really high, but you'd have to really screw it up for that to happen.

Common man. Your not changing idle, your changing timing. Why wouldnt you take the 10 extra minutes to make sure everything is right? Especially since this kid is completly clueless..doing any job on a car haslf assed gets you nothing but more problems..

I have a feeling he's not going to keep the car long enough to need it timed right anyway. Also if he's afraid to change the cas I doubt he's going to want to time it.

OP: You need to buy a haynes manual, there's a lot of stuff you can learn to do from people on here, but a lot of the maintenance stuff you're going to have to figure out yourself.

Empie is totally right though, you should time it when you're done, but if you don't have the means or are too scared to mess with it you can get away with lining it up.
 
yep, thats why i said treat it as you would a distributer. to ground out any advance other than base advance there's a little connector on the firewall harness, near the battery. Its looks like it doesn't plug into anything else on the car. Ground that out somehow, and time it pretty much like a chevy small block. rotate the CAS in place of the distributer to advance or retard timing.
