Just wondering what the normal operating temperature is for a 91 Tsi AWD. My temp. gauge says i'm running hot atfter i replaced the gauge and the pocketlogger read out was 217 degrees F. Is this normal or too hot?

I've never seen my temps reach anything over 196 in any conditions so far. We'll see about the sticky and hot days this summer though. Is that reading normal temps in decently hot weather or in cold weather? If you're worried about it getting hotter when the weather warms up try flushing your coolant system and replacing the thermostat.

i was afriad that was rediculously high temperatures for the normal OT, they don't sound that off but i guess it's time to try and flush my coolant and check out the thermostat. What's the easiest way to see if the thermostat is working?

forgot to add that it was logged in about 75 degree weather. The car runs perfectly fine (probably better than it ever has) but i'm still worried

Ya that's not too hot but I would still flush the coolant system. As far as testing the thermostat, if yours is old I wouldn't bother testing it since they are only like 12$. Maybe replace your radiator cap while you're at.

I haven't personally tested my thermostat cause they are so cheap to replace but you should be able to place it in some boiling water and when it gets hot enough it'll open a bit.

My 2g with FMIC in 105 degrees will generall run about 206-210 at idle since the fan doesn't kick on in a 2g until 210. I'm not sure on a 1G.

My 2g with the dejon fmic and only the accessory fan, stays around 190 most of the time and the highesti have read (doesnt mean it hasnt passed it but i just werent looking at the logger if it did) was 204.
217 seems sort of high but as long as it goes down at night and on cooler days, it shouldnt be abnormal. I have heard that flushing the radiator and getting new fluid can help.

well i'm gonna throw in some water wetter into it tonight and see what happens, I need to get to the WMDSM meet tomorrow. Thanks for all the quick responses :)
