I got a 95 tsi with a spun bearing from some guy off craigslist. He removed the timing belt from the crankshaft for some reason. He didn't mark any of the timing components. Will this be a problem? Sorry, kinda new at this.

No pics hard to really understand look at vfaq for 2g timing if yoiu dont have them you dont, but the pics show what should be there.

The timing marks are on the engine itself. You really shouldn't have a problem as long as you know which marks line up where.

The cams have 2 marks on the gears each. And 1 on each gear hub. The mark in the hub should be at or close to 12 o'clock. The others should all be in a straight line. Count the teeth (39) iirc.

The crank is really easy to line up. Bring piston 1 to TDC, and it should be lined up with the marker on the front case.

It's not going to get f*cked up by being off a tooth or two. It takes more than that.

Line the crank up. Then check where the cams are, if they're off then time it. Not a big problem, simple fix.

i have a similar problem im trying to find tdc but my timing marks dont all line up

Spin the motor 5-6 full revolutions. It will take a few revolutions before all the marks are lined up and #1 at TDC. Remember there are 4 strokes in an engine, you have to be at TDC on the compression stroke which is when the marks will align. :thumb:

Ok dude, Ignore what your cams are doing for a few minutes.

Turn the crank until the crank is lined up. Then look at the cams. They may or may not line up. If they do, then "YAY", it is in time. If they don't turn it one more revolution. Then look at the cams again. If they line up, then "YAY", it is in time. If they don't then the engine is out of time for sure. They will line up every other revolution.
