Hey fellow DSMers, first time officially trying to post for help. my 1999 RS wont start after a short drive to a shop and back home. Before all this happened, I had replaced my alternator and the belt for it since it was squeaking horribly. Solved it by tightening it more however the squeak is still there but its very little and happens only from accelerating from idle. When trying to start it back up from replacing the alternator and hooking the battery back up. I couldnt start the car normally, so I had read one of the forums saying to open throttle and try starting the car that way which worked. Anyway back to the problem at hand. Half way from the short drive, i had smelled something burning but not a bad enough burn to cause smoke. It smelt as if plastic was burning but i shrugged it off as i thought it would be the belt thats causing it. Got back home from the drive, parked on my driveway and checked in the engine bay to see what was causing such a smell. Couldnt see anything but the car then started to idle as if its struggling to stay in idle. Decided to turn off the car so it will stop struggling, went back to the engine bay to check things, checked to see if the belt was fine and everything. Tried to start the car again and now it wont start. All it does now is just crank but not start. Checked everywhere in the forums but cant find a helping answer, I checked the fuel pump, its priming and taking fuel as it was squirting out fuel thru the fuel pump line. Took the battery to full charge but still wont start. Replaced the CTS but still wont start. I didnt check the camshaft sensor since that is a new sensor from rebuilding the motor. Crankshaft sensor seems to be in good condition. Almost everyone in the forums about no start seems to be talking about the ECU, which made me think, if its the ECU that caused the burning smell, what exactly could have caused it to do that cuz thats never happened before when the car was being driven perfectly fine. idk guys, im at a complete lost atm, been fighting her for a week now and I give up. Starting to now ask anyone out there to help me solve this cuz at this point I might just send it to a shop to figure it out cuz i cant seem find the problem. :banghead::confused:

Check your EGR system and the surrounding components. It's typical of a 420a to have melted vacuum hoses or wires because the EGR got clogged and too hot.
Checked all around the EGR system, everything seems relatively good, no melts or anything visually able to see. I checked some more forums and they said the ASD relay could be the problem, do u or anyone know how to bypass this relay or troubleshoot it. Also another thing about these relays, i have 3 of them and they are all the same. Same part number and pins. Only difference is the connector which im sure connects to the correct relay pins in the ECU. Just curious cuz i thought the 3 relays would look different haha
