I seem to have different wiring on my 96 NT. Or someone did a terrible hack job. I am hoping for the "terrible hack job" since I cannot get the car to start. I believe the coil shows black/green, black/red, Green/yellow but i have Black blue, Brownish??, Black green. I am beginning to wonder if my coil and cps sensor are swapped?

The wires to the coil should be black/red, black/blue, and brown. So, except for the black/green wire (maybe you saw it wrong?), it sounds right.

I think Paul is on this, but just for clarification, maybe positioning will also help. The two plugs that are "known" to be accidentally interchanged are the coil and the VSS (it goes on the tranny by the back roll stop). Well the VSS is on the same wiring loom as the TPS and the IAC plugs, while the coil plug comes out of a larger loom on its on loom.

Now you talk about the CPS plug; well that plug comes out of the same larger loom the Coil plug comes out of, at the same point. BUT it is also in its own loom and the wire is shorter to the plug than the coil plug (about 1/2 the distance).

There is a "pictorial" on here that Doug posted up showing positioning of each sensor on our engines. I don't think that's going to help you too much, but you can search it out on here if you wish.

well, turns out, my wiring was all messed up. i attached an image to what I currently have it wired as. This did help a lot, as now I am at least getting fuel and spark. Still will not start (although at least now it tries). I noticed when i bought the car, that none of the interior lights would come on. While I was rewiring, I accidentally hooked wired the yellow to the blue white position and vice versa on the cam sensor. My lights came on. So I am thinking somewhere I still have a wiring issue. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Also does my horrible attempt at making a diagram look correct as far as wire placement?

That all looks correct. Are you getting +8V on the yellow wires?

Ok, I still have electrical problems, Hopefully someone has some insight on this. I currently only have a 5 ref at the black/red at my coil connector. No 12v power. My question is, If i have a bad wire, short of searching thru the harness, Where would I run a new wire? Would I run it from Coil plug connector to black/red ECU or Black/red ASD? I have the 3 second power pulse when I turn the ignition on and hear the relay clicking. I Have checked for power at the black/red at the ASD, coming out of the ECU and then at the coil connector. (I don't have the the multimeter anymore so I am using a test light.) All of which had power but I am guessing the 5 ref at the plug is what is showing me power there. Any one have that has any insight on this would be much appreciated. Thx in advance.

I don't have constant 12v to my coil. I only get the 3 second spur from the ASD. I am showing a 5 ref to the black/red wire. Anyone have any insight on this?

Here is what has been replaced in the past week:

New:
Cam Angle Sensor
Crank Angle Sensor
Coil
ASD relay
Plugs and wires

I have (2), I believe to be in working condition PCM's that I have been swapping back in forth trying to resolve this issue. last code that was stored was #54 (PCM unable to detect cam angle sensor) which I have replaced CAS and the wiring connector it came with. I no longer have a multimeter to recheck the volts but I imagine its still the same. Still working with a test light.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

You should be measuring more than 5V at the coil; 12V+ is more like it. So here are my suggestions:

1. Get a multimeter. They're under $20 -- no excuses for not having one.
2. Look for melted wires near the EGR tube.
3. Get a multimeter.
4. If you can't find any, start tracing the wire through the harness. There's no other way. I wouldn't just bypass the wire because that won't help if there's a short.
5. Get a multimeter.

I got a multimeter and definitely only reading 5 volts, I have also opened up the harness previously and ran new wires due to this car being butchered by last owner and engine swap. Is there a way i can rule out certain things so I dont keep backtracking?

You can check for continuity between the coil connector and PCM connector. You definitely have a major problem if there's only 5V.

I check continuity between the coil and pin 22 @ JC a-82 which i have. I have no volts @ any black/red wire and have 12 volts with red/white at ASD and PCM. I am trying to understand this all a little better. Should I have constant 12v at the coil wiring? Cam sensor? Or should it just be when the relay activates for the 3 second span? I've got some more wires to check yet, but seems like something is majorly wrong.
