I have a 98 eclipse rs and have one of those OBDII computer code readers lying around in the garage. When I go to hook up the computer it will not power up at all but when I try it other family vehicles it powers up fine. The car had a custom stereo installed when I bought the vehicle and I was wondering with all the wiring this guy spliced into could there be a wire snipped behind there that might have cut the power to the OBDII connector. The only computers that read are at the emissions centers and assuming all self powered computers. Any suggestions?

Just wiggle it around alittle bit and see if the scanner starts to read it. I have to hold the connecters together with my hand in order to get it to work.

Ok... so here's the conclusion... Failure LOL. I went and tried that still no power to the reader and the reader is still working fine on other vehicles. Any other suggestions?

Check the pins themselves with a multimeter...

Pin 5 is ground and pin 16 is +12V. If you aren't getting any voltage from pin 16 with the keys turned in the ON position, then check the wires behind the OBDII plug. Try and trace them back as far as possible. If you can't find the origin, and you're feeling daring, connect the appropriate wires to a known ground and +12V source.

Yea I figured it was going to come down to tracing the wire and far as I can. I was just checking to see if there were any other problems like this previously too... thanks.

Yeah I have this problem as well. But the most important place to check is the radio area. I had someone that owned the car b4 me just lay a wire without covering it and that burnt all my wires in the harness to the fuse block. So check there first. If there isn't any problem there then try to put a positive side to the 16 pin and the thing should work. If this helps give me some feedback on my profile and if you need anymore help as well man.:thumb:

P.S I think my wire was the green w/ white strip witch was the problem. the power wire that goes into the OBDII is the same and the pink w/ the purple strip is another pos. conector
