2G No power, battery good, alternator good

Sometimes my 98 GSX will have no power at all when I get in the car. I had my battery checked and it passed. I did the alternator check by taking off the positive terminal while running and it didn't die, so I'm confused. I put the battery back on and it all of a sudden got power, but the next morning it died again.
And when it did start, full blast heat, defrost and lights etc would dim, and sometimes I would get SRS or ABS lights when braking (WTF?_) It has been getting better, but I really don't want to be stranded at the most inconvenient moment.
How do you check battery cable wires to see if they are good? And where is the "ground wire" for this car? sorry if that sounds kind of stupid, but it would help to know .
It always can be jumped, but it cranks REALLY FREAKING SLOW when it is.

I don't know where you're getting this test of taking off the positive terminal while it's running, but that ain't the way to test your alternator.

It sounds to me like the alternator is NOT charging and it's pretty simple to check this. Take a volt meter and put one lead on the positive terminal and one on the negative terminal with the engine running, with both terminals HOOKED UP and measure your voltage. If you don't measure at least 13.5 volts at the battery with the engine running your alternator is not up to par. On a good charging system you will see 13.5-14.8 volts coming back to the battery. If you are ANY lower, replace the alternator.
