First off welcome to the forums! Second not trying to be an ass but that little button at the top of the screen that says search its there for a reason. This question has been beaten to death. Can it be done yes are you going to want to do it no. Its easer to turbo your 420a or sell your 420a and buy a 4g63. When you do the search you will see.

:beatentodeath:

Without fabrication skills, this is not gonna happen.

Short reason being? The 420a is a Chrysler engine, the 4G63 is a Mits engine. They dont interchange at all.

the engine bay on a 420a and 4g63 are opposite. I would definitely say it is not worth converting to 4g63, i didn't think it was really possible anyway. Like stated above, just turbo the 420a or get rid of it and buy a gst/gsx!!

If your going to do any kind of swap like this put a evo motor in. They mount on the same side and a WHOLE lot less fab work.

so if i went with the EVO engine do i have to replace all the other parts taht i dont have for them to work with the engine? if that makes sense

Its the same amount of fabrication as it would be to put a DSM 4g63 in it.

The ONLY engine that will work in your car is a 420a! Anything else WILL require extensive fabrication and electrical skills.

o so ruffly how much would it cost to get all that done?

Ha. Go to a fabrication performance shop and ask them what they charge per hour to do that. Then take that by about 100 hours. I bet you crap yourself.

so overall around 5 grand to do all of this if i buy all that and the eninge and stuff included if i paid 1900 for the engine

Never.

Take that times about 5. Do you know how much work it takes to do something like that? You must not appreciate good fabrication and electrical work

so your basically saying if i sell my car for 4000 save up 3000 then buy a gsx in about a year or 2?

Yes. Or do what I do and use your NT as a DD and get your other DSM down the road.

Its going to cost a hell of a lot less to sell your 420a and purchase a turbo dsm

Sell your N/T and buy a 1G shell to throw your motor in.

The other option is to turbocharge your 420a, which MANY people have had GREAT success with.

The "sell your non-turbo and buy a turbo" argument has been beaten to death, and is no longer even relevant, as there are many successful turbo'd 420a's out there running great numbers.

Only reason I'm telling him to sell it though is because he already has a 4g63 engine, motor, etc.

If he were to start from scratch, I'd probably encourage the idea of boosting the 420a.

And selling that 4g63 and parts would more than pay for a turbo kit and all the supporting mods, along with extra stuff.

True.

I just look at the 4g63 to be a more potential and safer engine to boost with.

It's really up to the OP. Lots of research will help yield a decision. IMO, I still say sell it and get a 1G. Besides, I still believe that everyone needs to try out an AWD DSM sometime in their life. ;)

no i dont already have the engine i was saying if i did so if i just turbo the 420A how much to change my tranny to a manual ha dont ask why i have one my dad bought the car for me

I'd say roughly $700-$1000 depending on if you do the labor yourself.

cause i will proabably just get the tranny out of a junker eclipse

Even then, it will still add up.

Clutch
Flywheel
Pressure Plate
Axles
Master Cylinder
Slave Cylinder
Clutch Lines
Clutch Pedal Assembly
Shifter Cables
Shifter Assembly
Shift knob + boot
Shift Linkage

I'm sure theres more, that's just off the top of my head. You'll also have to ditch your TCM (Transmission Control Module) because 5-speed cars don't use one. I am not sure if there is any re-wiring that needs to be done. Other then that it's mainly just a lot of wiggling around and a lot of drilling and custom fab. It can be done, but I'm assuming this car is your daily driver. That could be a problem.
