so i am new to the GSX forums....and to the GSX... i am a SUPRA guy and that is were the extent of my knowledgde lies....so here is my question:

Has anyone swapped an EVO, VR4, or an FTO engine in place of the GSX motor?
if so....whats the best choice? is an engine swap worth it for the gsx? what are the pros and cons? whats ## opinion?....thanks in advance!

if I was you i would just find a 1990-early 1992 4g63 they have a 6bolt flywheel and it will be as powerful as you make it. all the years after that have a 7bolt flywheel. the evo motor wont work becuz it is opposite then ours.

I'm not saying it can't be done but most of them run the exact opposite setup compared to the dsm's who's tranny is on the right. I would just do like 95tzlgst said and find a 6-bolt or buy a short block or a motor shipped from japan in go from there...

The Evo 1-3 and the galant VR4 motors will fit in the gsx without much modification. The 3000gt vr4 (6G72) motor is a v6 tt that will take a great deal of custom fabrication and modification to work and isn't really cost effective. For dsm's we stick with the proven 4g63 motor. It is not too hard to make some decent power from these motors. But, like any car - take a lot of knowledge, planning and money. Every driving style and performance needs will require a different setup. Its entirely up to you what you want and need.

thanks guys!...thats the exact info i needed and was looking for!

There are a few different motor options for the DSM that no one touched on in this thread so I'll mention them to you.

The first is a stroker block. You can build a 2.3 or a 2.4 depending on the block (4G63 or 4G64) you use. Lots of info on the site if you're interested.

Some folks are also building destroked 2.4 blocks (2.2 after) for higher revs.

OR you can go with a 2.0 block and go with higher compression.

OR you can dual charge the car with a supercharger and turbo in sequence. Not many have done it so you'd be charting a lot of new ground.

There are lots of options. It is all up to you and what you want to do with the car. As you're already a tuner I'm sure you know this but plan ahead on what your goals are for the car and build for that from the get-go.

The 3kGt TT motor swap has been done (Ray Peters) but the car was very nose heavy and he said it wasn't worth doing again.

Welcome to the community!

What about an RB34 motor swap on a GSX, that would be some site to see, it could be done just talk to the guys over at Top Secret aka (Smokey Nagata) and his awesome creations just my two cent's...

An RB25/26 is a great motor but, it is a waste of money. But, If you want to be special then yeah, with the right amount of money, it could be done. Instead, it would be better to invest a fraction of that into what you already have. The best thing to do is keep it simple.

I also would be careful who I would let do this. I would only take this to someone who has an outstanding reputation and record.
