I searched on the forum for a answer to this but couldnt find any resolved threads. I bought a automatic 4g63 with a blown motor. I pulled engine and rebuilt it. After getting the car back together it wont go in gear until either one the car is fully warmed up then itll drive perfect or two (if engine is cold) I can put it in park and rev to about 4k then slide shifter to reverse or drive and it will go in gear. Line pressure is good, when putting the engine back together I put torque converter in tranny first then bolted tranny to block, I'm getting no check engine lights except for evap emission stuff. I have also had no luck in pulling any tranny codes. I dropped the pan and I dont see any shaving and everything looks good. I also changed transmission filter twice and added atf 4. Fluid levels are good (checked it in neutral with car warmed up). This past time I also added some lucas to it but have yet to drive it since then to see if it helped. Does anyone have any ideas? This thing is driving me nuts, it just doesnt make any since to me. Its the first auto eclipse Ive messed with...thanks in advance!

I bought this car with a blown engine, I towed it home and disassembled it. I rebuilt the engine and put it all back together. Torque converter seated 3x into transmission then mounted tranny to block, then to flexplate etc. Put 2 quarts in torque converter alone and a additional 5 in tranny (7 quarts total). Started car up and got it to operating temperature and put in neutral and fluid level was good (atf4 fluid). My problem is when car is cold I have no gears at all. I can rev it up to about 2k in park and then into gear and it will go (I have to keep doing this until car is warm) or I can put it in gear and rev to about 4k and it will pop and go. When car is fully warmed up it'll go right into any gear and drive all day with no slipping or problems at all. Anybody have any ideas? I'm not getting and codes from tcu.

No ideas? Anyone?

No body has any suggestions?

I'm bumping this thread because I'm having the same problem. One exception is if I blip the throttle at the EXACT same time as pulling the lever into R or D it'll go into gear just fine. TCU is in limp-mode. I've got my own ideas about what is wrong, but just looking for some affirmation. Ideas or suggestions?

Op, it sounds like you have a low fluid or line pressure issue. Did you replace filter when you were working on it? Any mods to the tranny? Did you happen to flush the cooler with compressed air while it was apart to make sure of no trash or debris in the lines?

Does sound like a clog. After it warms up, the fluid becomes a little less viscous and enough of it can get past the clog to put transmission in gear.

Could possibly be that shifter linkage is out of adjustment just a little bit. This only allows the valve inside to open up part of the way, restricting fluid flow.
