My buddy bought my old car which is a 91 talon tsi.. The kid hasnt drove thie thing in like 2 years for he blew it up the very first time he drove it ( long story behind that one ). Anyways he just got a walbro 255 the other day cause when he started it last week he revved it up and it just died. Well he put the pump in and to no avail it didnt work. I had an extra pump relay, changed that, still nothin. We even swapped ecus and still the pump only turns on after you crank it over. I mean you crank the motor over and when you stop cranking the pump turns on for about 2-3 seconds until the ecu shuts off (when it clicks after you shut it off) The kid refuses to rewire the pump and use a toggle as a temporary fix but im runnin out of things that could be wrong with the damn thing. Any imput would be appreciated. :talon:

That is how it works.
The starter circuit provides one input for the fuel pump side of the MPI relay and the ECU provides another. The fuel pump turns on while cranking and then the ECU continues running the pump until it sees that the engine isn't running and shuts the pump off.

As long as you have fuel pressure at the rail you can stop looking at the pump circuit and start looking for the real cause of the engine not running.

Im sayin when you're cranking the engine the pump doesnt do anything. I have the exact same setup and when you turnn the ignition on the pump turns on and its clearly audible while cranking inside and outside the car. Its only when the key is turned back to the on position from the cranking position that the pump finally turns on. We actually took the pump out yesterday and the flow of the fuel while cranking was very VERY weak, it was more of a sputter, but as soon as it stopped cranking it gushed gas like it was its job. Just cant figure it out
