So I have a 1991 AWD talon, and I was wondering why im not getting prime when I turn the key to acc. power, The person I bought it from said the fuel pump was "re-wired" I'm assuming this is some kind of mod.. is this affecting my start up? it has to crank for a few seconds befor it starts... any ideas?

Re-wiring the fuel pump is a popular modification that involves running a thicker power lead for the pump, this results in a much lower voltage drop, and thus more power available to the pump. It is a good thing. :thumb:

Install a fuel pressure gauge and check how quickly the pressure falls after the vehicle is shut off. (or after you do get a good prime) Lost prime is usually a leak in the fuel lines, leaky injector, or bad check ball in the fuel pump.

thanks for the fast reply, well I'm not getting prime at all when I turn the key one knotch (acc.) you can usally hear the pump prime than cut off, correct? I'm not getting any of that I'm gonna get a FP guage in tomarrow.

If the fuel pump does not turn on right when turning the key, I would first check the relay used in the re-wire. It is usually placed near the top of the tank, or behind the interior speaker panel. Check that is has not gummed up causing a slow reaction.

Otherwise, install the fuel pressure gauge and see what it is doing.
