what are the advantages of not having a cat? and the disadvantages besides legal issues emissions are not a problem.

Advantages are a much more free-flowing exhaust. The cat is probably the most restrictive part of the exhaust. Removing it makes for more power. And if you're into saving weight, those things weigh a ton (relatively speaking of course).

If you take it off and don't do a fake O2 Sensor Radio-Shack job, you will throw a cel. That's the only disadvantage (since you already said besides emissions and the law).

I don't have one. Probably one of the most noticable performance upgrades I've done so far.

It made my n/t sound pretty ricey, so be wary of that if it bothers you. I only did it because I couldn't afford a replacement, not for perfmormance. On an N/T you'll also notice a lack of low-end afterwards. But I guess it's faster higher up.

Just get a test-pipe...and when you have to get the car tested...Un-bolt and throw the Cat back on..It's really easy..and yes the power difference is well worth it!..dan

I just replaced my stock cat with a Punishment Test Pipe. Its great the factory cat is extremely heavy! The only thing is you get complaints from cars behind you as they get sprayed when you turn over the car. hahaa

I changed mine a while ago, i noticed an major decrease in spool up time. It wasn't easy to install tho, my bolts were bad, we ended up using a grinder to get it off. but it was well worth it.

my dsm has been catless since day one I had it, I wouldnt want it any other way
yes its a lil louder but oh well, plus suprisingly I've heard from more than one person that my exhaust sound great, them magnaflow mufflers are awesome, if anyone wanted to know :p

how does is it sound i thought about gutting the cat or testpipe.. and removing the resonator. i already have a silvertone muffler and it has a nice and low tone, if removing that would it make it too high pitch.

not to hijack..but is anyone running complete straight piping..no cat no muffler/resonators?
i have turboback exhaust with no restrictions but the cat, wondering if it would just be super obnoxiously loud if i put in a test-pipe.

A friend of mine has a gst with straight pipe from turbo to tip, with a fake muffler to make it appear legal, but really they wrapped an old muffler around the pipe. looks sweet, sounds awesome, and if he keeps his foot out of it, it makes it past the cops pretty easily.

if you want a resenator/test pipe for 50$ with shipping go to ebay and type in 2g DSM and ul find alot of highflow cats (AKA quite test pipes)
