My GS-T is set to run 15 psi. I was driving my friend around a couple of days ago and he said that he could not feel much difference between my 15 psi and his 6 psi (same turbo, he has a Mazdaspeed Protege). Would a blocked up intercooler cause this? I doubt if its ever been cleaned out because I just got the car a couple of months ago. If not, what else might cause it? I don't think its a boost leak because my gauge reads 15 psi boost and 16-20 in/hg vacuum @ idle. Any help is greatly appreciated!

umm boost leaks dont necessarily mean you will not be able to boost 15 psi. it means tthat the turbo has to work alot harder to produce that amount. i'm sure you get what i mean.

do yourself a favor a build a tester... i garauntee you have a leak  if not, check your plugs/wires, turbo for play [ if it's playing BAD ] then do a compression test. if everything is perfect your friend is lying

how do you check for play

try to wiggle the shafts inside the turbine housing. if they move, then you got play. i think i have a ton of it, and that my turbo is on the way out, but i dont know for sure.
