My uncle is insisting that I dont need a boost gauge yet, but I can use a MBC to adjust the boost. He says that just adjut the boost until I get fuel cut, then back it off a turn. He said since it always reaches fuel cut at 19psi, it will be ok if I just back it off from there.

I REALLY dont think this is a good idea, and that you absolutely NEED a gauge in order to safely control boost. Whos right, me or my uncle?

Yeah man you should seriously put in a Boost guage before you turn up the boost. You dont want to be upping the boost without even knowing how high your putting it at.

Yeah, he may be a veteran engine mechanic, but he doesnt know jack about turbocharged cars (except for buicks LOL). Ill REALLY try to convince him. He also said hes going to get a "fish tank valve" for a MBC.....I think that a home depot MBC would be better than a fish valve. :|

personally, i hate guages. so what i did was went to pep boys, bought the 15$ boost gauge, set my mbc, took it for a trip of about 20 minz while beating on the car, and boost stuck to exactly what i wanted w/o spiking or ne thing.

Fuel cut has nothing to do with PSI it has to do will airflow. Just becasue you are at a certain psi doesnt mean you are flowing enough air to hit fuelcut. Use common sense when moddign your car and you will be fine. Get a boost gauge and set it at a good boost level.

How come every thread that has an old guy mechanic in it turns into a he doesnt know anything about imports, and he should stick to domestics. If someone is dumb then they are dumb all the way around. It has nothing to do with doemstic and import becasue a motor is a motor. Each one has its own little quirks, but nothing anyone with common sense couldnt figure out. The domestic VS import thing is old and childish.
