OK, Yes I searched for hours but didn't find anything related to this exact problem. From the searchs, it seems to be a synchro problem, but I'm not sure yet.
OK, here goes..
1990 AWD talon, the trans a 1992 model with a 1990 output shaft. ACT 2600 clutch and ACT flywheel. When the car is first started, you cannot put the trans in 1st gear. As soon as you put the shifter towards 1st, it grinds, badly.. After driving for about 15-20 mins after the car/trans is fully warmed up, I can shift into 1st gear, and its fine.
Also, the trans grinds very bad going into Reverse. If you push it hard and fast (yea, yea) into reverse, it grinds but will go into gear. When driving around town, sometimes it is a little harder when downshifting or upshifting, no grinds it just takes a little more effort to shift it.
I know the clutch master may be bad, or need adjusting. The car will creep forward from a stop with the clutch depressed ALL the way in gear.
My question, do you guys think it may be something as simple as adjusting the clutch rod? I know this needs to be done reguardless, and I will adjust it in the next couple days, when I get free time. Does this 1st gear problem sound like a bad synchro, even though its ok after driving it?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
