Alright so Im new around here but I only need to ask some questions about DSMs.

first question-I found a 92 eclipse GSX with everything but a engine and tranny. He just bought the car to do the 6 bolt swap to his 2g. Is this worth 450 bucks? everything I research on google says that GSTs are worth 200-300 but I cant find anything on GSX.

second- My plan is to take the motor out and rebuild it from bottom up. high performance crank, pistons, rods, cylinder heads....the whole works. My question is the non turbo 2.0l 4g63 the same as in block and cylinder heads as the turbo? cause the turbo used motors ive found are about 1500 bucks but i can find non turbos for 500-750....so if the only parts im going to end up replacing all the internals why buy the turbo one!

I dont think 450 is too much for a gsx shell especially if it comes with a clean frame/body, rear end, driveshaft, etc... It sounds about right. Of course go for $375-$400 if you can, but I wouldnt say 450 is a ripoff

edit: any pics?

Yea I would say 400 to 425 sound's about right for a decent shell. Thats what I did I had a 91 N/T 2.0L Talon and built the engine for turbo and bought a 92 tsi AWD talon with the 4 bolt rear end and went from there. Also the oil squirters aren't really necessary so use the oil for the crank instead of the pistons just my 2 cents.

Well take it how you want but, i just scrapped a 1g shell no motor ,no trans ,no rear end - and i put some scrap inside of it -stuff i had laying around and i believe i got around 435 out of it - me personally i wont sell a good shell for no less than 200 above scrap price -last 2g shell i had was an awd shell mostly stripped and i got 450 out of it - no motor ,trans ,front clip, interior was from another car- thrown inside it. I been screwing with these cars since 02 and i've had more than i'll ever remember or be able to try and count

I just sold an awd tsi non running 6 bolt for 500$..

Would I buy a 92 gsx shell for 450..Probably not unless everything was there...

A 6 bolt short block, shouldn't cost you 1500$..I've found 6 bolt built blocks for 1500$

$1500 is a lot to pay for a motor that your going to rebuild anyhow. I would suggest find a head and 6 bolt block and build it from that point. At least you will be putting money towards your goal and not for a used motor to be rebuilt.

Hey bud PM me your number so I can buy a shell from you next year LOL. I want a 1ga really bad,

I don't have another shell bro...I want a 91 auto too..Havn't found one yet tho..

Ive seen clean shells go for right around 500. Clean 1gbs are like freakin unicorns!!!
Offer 400 but buy it for sure!!!

Quick question, I have a 94 auto with a 6 bolt swap, stock trans that came originally in the car. I bought the car from a guy who "restored" it. I'm pretty sure he got the 6 bolt flex plate and torque converter from the junkyard...anyway the pump went in the trans and my buddy has a 2g trans for 100 bux! Will it work?

We have a search function for that...Also they didn't make 94's with 6 bolts..So it has been swapped..Or is a 7 bolt..

$450 can be a lot but that's because it's extremely difficult to make your "own" awd Dsm from a fwd platform. 1g gsx it's all there, you just got to put it together. As for your block question GO TO vfaq.com it will tell you how convert non turbo(assuming 4G63) to a 4G63T-oil squirters, pistons, and etc.

Just find a local Dsm with a blown head and throw a new one on, retime, and BOOM a new DD! :)

Well you CLEARLY didn't read my post! And why are you so ignorant with the "we have a search function for that"? I thought this was one one of the best communities for dsms? And I've been searching and can't find shit on this subject! Please re-read the post genius!

Ignore it bro, it's not worth an interwebz battle.. Lol

LOL your going to have a hard time finding the answer to your question with that attitude

I did two hours worth of research and comparing both A/T trans and came to the conclusion its possible the 1g only has 1 trans mount and the 2g has 3. Some people say you must cohange TCase from that year car/tranny because of the ratios, but I say itd be like changing the rear end in a truck? Just changes the ratio which is what the TCU is for. So I'm saying 2g will work in a 1g but 1g won't work in a 2g because of the mount difference. Also, the early AT 91 and earlier use a 3 plug harness and later ones use a 2 plug harness.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Drive ratios of the front diff, transfercase and rear end are all static. They are purely mechanical components and their ratios must match. You'll have to search for AT stuff. All I know is manual and all tcase ratios are the same 90-96. 97 up are different. This is likely true of AT as well. A quick trip to CAPS will reveal.

Paul's right.

Tranny gear ratios for DSMs

As for the NT vs Turbo block issue, I'd probably buy a 4G63 NT block. If you're rebuilding it anyway, I'm sure the cost of having your machine shop drill and tap for oil squirters is much less than the price difference you've claimed. If it were me, I might even skip the squirters and just invest in a really nice oil cooler.

The oil squirters are there for a reason on turbocharged DSMs though.
