I just bought a 93 TSi Talon FWD and have some questions. First the car used to be an Auto then the previous owner did a 5 speed conversion. When I bought the car it wasnt running they bent the rear shield for the starter so it would not bolt in. I fixed that problem and replaced the starter. I replaced the plugs and hooked up the intercooler. They said the car was running before they put the new trans in. (Had a 5 speed junkyard trans in and blew it, then put a brand new trans in with racing syncros) I put the battery in and tried to crank it. It turns over and runs very erratic for a few seconds and then dies. When I keep trying the ignition fuse blows and when replaced it is very hot. Any help would be appricated Im new to DSM's but not to cars was originally a Nissan man but sold that car.

First you should check for any broken or damaged ground and make sure that the spark plug wires are going to the right cylinders.

Ok, I grabbed my dad and had him look over everything. When I tried to crank it he noticed sparks coming from the coil pack. There was a bolt there and it was grounding out when the engine shook too much. We fixed a couple of broken wires, and fixed alot of make shift repairs with solder and heat shrink opposed to tape. I replaced the plug wires also there were a few spots where the timing belt rubbed the wires and theiony put tape over it.

Replaced all the grounds on the car and cranked it again. It stays running now but its still very erratic. I need to hook up all the vaccum lines as well. The new problem is a very bad vibration from the engine. I looked in the chilton and checked the oil pump timing mark and corrected the oil pump. That didnt make a difference.

I also have a question, the previous own did a auto to manual conversion. The shift linkage binds. Is the N/A Trans linkage different than the turbo motor? I think it needs to be adjusted.

The car right now is located in Lutz, FL and im at my Dad's house in Ocala. Im in the Army on leave for 30 days. I just got back from my second tour in Iraq. If there are first gen DSM pros in the FL area that can help PM me please!
