Ok, I am totaly new to tuning. I have a stock 97 GST, and I was wondering, would be easier for me to get DSMLINK as my first mod, or should I start upgrading Mechanical parts? I was thinking, things would be easier if I got DSMLINK then started tuning after each additional part was added. What do you guys think? Or is DSMLINK to much for someone new to this stuff?

I have done it both ways. Its more fun to tune each part. But you can do very well with bolt ons. Like low 13's high 12's. Or at least my best friend did with his 2G. Of course he hit his limit and we bought dsmlink. Now he is much quicker.

You're not going to get too far down the upgrade path before DSMLink will be needed. At the point that you're ready to upgrade either the turbo or the injectors, you'll need something to manage the extra fuel and/or airflow. You can get away with a few basic bolt-ons without needing engine management, but don't wait too long.

I ended up putting on a new turbo before getting DSMLink, and then started hitting fuel cut. Driving wasn't enjoyable until I was able to get DSMLink to eliminate fuel cut and open the door to additional upgrades.

OK, thanks guys. I guess DSMLINK will be first then. I am wondering how hard it is to tune though? Like I said, I am a complete newb to tuning. Your guys help is really appreciated.

Tuning with DSMLink is as simple as it gets and the guys on the DSMLink forums are more than happy to help interpret your logs or help out with anything you need. Happy tuning buddy :thumb:.
