I just got dsmlink and installed it on my 97. After installing it I later found out that I need the number on the back of the chip to sign on to link's forums. I have a quick question while I'm at work. Last nigh I noticed that timming was droping to around 8 wile I gave the car a little gas, the car would then would shutter. I don't know why, I was only at 25% throtle. The other question I have is on the ride home lastnight the car started to hesitate (cruising at 45mph), when I got home I poped the hood and the manifold was glowing red. I have a wideaband and it looked fine on the way home. What caused this? How can I hook my wideband to dsmlink so it can help with my loging. On a final note I havn't done the lftl lo and high settings yet since the car is acting up I don't want to go far from the house to cruise at one speed. Any help is greatly appriciated.

glowing read to me means that you had the timing way retarded. I saw this happen once on a 6 bolt swap in a 2g where the kid didn't tighten the sensor down, pulled and retarded the timing and burnt the valves. If your air fuels were fine, which is also odd for glowing read manifold unless u were running wot for a mile or so, then i would start looking at either ignition settings or maybe mechanical engine timing. Now on this 97 does it have a 6 bolt swap? Because that's the only reason i could see a 2g running odd timing, unless the link is set for it of course.

yes it has a 6bolt swap in it. So you think the cas moved slightly?

Did you make sure to swap your spark plug wires around?

Do you have "Use non95/96 style cam angle sensor" checked?

The fuel trim tuning shouldn't affect driveability right now. If all you have adjusted is for your fuel injectors, everything else should be running off the stock maps (fuel, timing, and airflow).

Yea, the plug wires where swaped around and the cas was inverted.

Do you have DSMlink or ECMlink?

Go to the DTC screen and make sure you have the Cylinder Misfire box unchecked. This will tell the ECU not to look for that code, which is a very common problem with 6 bolt swaps.

since it has a 6 bolt swap and your using a 1g CAS i would use the link option to enable the abilty to set mechanical timing on your motor and set it to whatever factory specs are for a 2g using the factory timing cover. Sounds to me like its just retarded ignition timing

see its not bad but what i am very curious about is since your using a 1g CAS did you put the motor in time with a timing light? The ecu will show you a timing value but if your cam sensor isn't in sync with the ecu that value may not be correct but let us know how it goes and keep on

It's sapposed to be 5 grounded and 8 not grounded right?

I just took the car our for a little spin and noticed that everytime the car started to hesitate the tach would jump. I've already ran into this but I thought we fixed it. I've already changed out the cas, and the coil pack before but I guess that didn't fix the issue. What tells the tach to work? Is there anything else to look for in this problem, I'm starting to think they're connected.
