Belle River,
I'm now in the market for a new turbo (not by choice). I've just started my winter build and discovered quite a bit of shaft play in my turbo. I'm looking for some thing that will bolt into my existing set up, and give me the goals I'm looking for at the track. My car is still driven on the street, and sees the track on most weekends. It is not my daily driver though. I'm looking for mid to low 11's at the track next year. Here is a list for what is in the car, or what is here waiting to go in,

2.0L 0.20 over
eagle rods
wiseco 9:1 pistons
arp everything
mid P&P on head
manly springs, ti retainers
stock size si valves
HKS 264/272 cams
DSM link
GM maft
FIC850 injectors
meth injection

Current turbo set up that I want to stay with is,
T3/T4 tubular header (made to clear a 35R)
Tial 38mm waste gate
Garret 57 trim (on its way out) 4 bolt out let, oil cooled
2.5" down pipe-3" back exhaust

So with keeping my goals in mind. What turbo would you recommend? I want some thing that I can bolt into my existing set up with out too much trouble.

I guess nothings wrong with going with the 35r. My personal favorites are holset though. Not sure if an hx35 would do the job but an hx40 would.

I was thinking about the Borg S258, I'm just starting to read up on the holset. The holset might be the better way due to the budget?

I'd stay away from anything Precision. I've had a run of bad luck with Precision turbos lately.

I'd say Holset HX40, but apparently the T3-inlet Holset housings are getting hard to find. I don't believe Bullseye ever made a Holset housing with a T3 inlet and 4-bolt Garrett-style outlet....although I could be wrong.

If you like Garrett, try a 60-trim or 60-1 compressor mated to a Stage 5 turbine in a .63 or .82 a/r T3 turbine housing.

Right now I'm looking more at the borg warner. Either the s258 or the s362? It may just come down to which would bolt up to my set up with the least amount of changes.

HX35 all the way. By far the most affordable. And BEP should be able to give you a .70 a/r housing with the t3 inlet and garret outlet you need. The 70a/r turbine housing would give your hx35 all the topend it needs. You'll spool to 20+ psi a little before 4K rpms. If you get the common 7blade later hx35, you will have a 60lb/min compressor map, more flow and better high boost efficiency than the gt30r. And plenty of turbine to push it to it's limit.

Another option is to run the stock twinscroll hx35 turbine housing. VERY budget. You will just need to fab a vband o2 housing. This option probably is the most affordable since you already have the t3 manifold. You'll need to knifedge the the turbine divider or buy the special PTE gasket that makes a twinscoll inlet more aerodynamic for anon-divided header. Spool will be abotu the same as with a BEP .70/ar turbine housing: full boost at about 4K. This hotside (hx35 turbine housing hx35 turbine wheel) has already done over 132mph on a full weight AWD DSM, so it is definately 600whp capable. With the 60lb/min 7blade hx35 compressor, you will have plenty of turbo for your goal.

The bolton .55 a/r 8blade 52lb/min hx35 has done 11.2sec @126mph, and spools to full boost by 3500rpms OMG.

If you're looking at the s3** series, then you want more than an 11second goal. If that is the case, just get an hx40 pro with a .70 a/r t3 housing. You will save money and get a turbo that has over 650whp potential and still have full boost before 4500rpms. Although if you're really after a bolder goal than mid-low 11s, then you should be studying intake manifold upgrades, cam upgrades, and transmission upgrades :) .
