I'm getting a new turbo, its a Turbonetics 50 trim and its not a coolant cooled turbo, just oil cooled only. What am I supposed to do with the coolant lines thats coming from the motor?

You could probably easily cap off the holes in which the water lines come from. I'm not sure WHERE the engine is tappped for water feed/return but I'm sure you could goto Home Depot and get some NPT (national pipe thread) caps and cap those holes shut.

What you can do, though, is take one of the lines to your nearest hardware store and find out what the thread size is on the line. Then just buy a cap on that thread size/type and you are set.

Good luck! :thumb:

Its on a 98 GST. So I would disconnect the feed lines from the block or where ever they are coming from and plug them? I remember when I did my 20g swap it was a barb type deal that the rubber from the coolant lines from the turbo slid on to.

As CanadianTSi mentioned, all you should have to do is loop them. If I get what he's trying to say, it's just bypassing the turbo, using only one hose from the source of the water to the destination. It's similar to looping the power steering line if you remove the cooling loop, if I understand correctly.

I'm not experienced at all with DSM's and how things are EXACTLY laid out, but it should be pretty easy to plug the holes up.

What kind of barb is there, a brass T-barb? if so, you could just replace that with a straight barb.

Ugh I tried to get some pics but I cant get my software to work right now to upload them :(

Its just a stainless tube thats coming from the main coolant line that has a little ring that runs around the end of it that you slide a rubber hose onto...

They're just small diameter pipes with a beaded end.

We'll try this with a "Insert Tab A into Slot B" approach and see if I get this right. :)

Say the water source pipe is A.
A has a rubber hose attached to it. We'll call it A1.
A1 leads to a water pipe attached to the turbo. We'll call that AA.

The turbo has a water pipe attached to it. We'll call that BB.
BB has a rubber hose attached to it. We'll call that B1.
B1 leads to a water pipe attached to the main water pipe/t-stat housing (I'm not 100% sure where it ends up. We'll call that B.

On a dry housing, you're not going to have water pipes AA or BB. So one possible solution is to make A and B mate with just one single rubber hose, we'll call that AB1.

I think we need a MS Paint diagram to go along with this :p

:sneaky: We need a this thread is worthless without pics smilie on here. So looping it would be running a hose from the feed pipe the water line on the back of the turbo would connect to and connecting it to the feed pipe that would connect to the front of the turbo?

BEHOLD!!

I'm not totally certain of the locations of the water pipes on the t-stat housing. It will be quite obvious which ones are which when you take the turbo off.
