can I go synthetic?

WHAT NEXT???

CAMS??? Which ones?
what then??

COUPLINGS

where can I get a few feet of it at for a resonable price??
same goes for vaccum lines

The first thing I would do is switch the SAFC to a DSMLink, and cams are nice, there are a lot of thread about cams right now.

Cheapest ones are the Brian Crowers going for 325 shipped? If you want a great idle plus more mid power you can use a 264/272 combo. But if you are more serious about racing you can go 272/272. Idle will be rougher with 272/272. Some people don't like them because it moves the power band up, it is arguable that they are used for higher powerbands so it really awakens a bigger turbo.

Personal preferance there, I would choose 264/272 if I only had an Evo 16G but people would totally disagree with me.

I have always used synthetic and many other people would tell you to too.

Plugs ONLY USE NGK fill in 6 7 maybe 8 regular coppers.

EDIT: also maybe you want to look for a FPR too

I agree with what EvolvingGST said.
And getting a set of cams will give you the extra power you are looking for. :thumb:

Ahhh the search feature of this site is extremely useful... However, I'll point you in the correct direction -

http://www.dsmtuners.com/sub.php?page=1gtupgrades

Is the upgrade path that will get you to where you want to be. You already have most of these things, however we can't proceed until you fill out your profile and give us a little more info.

How much boost are you running? what are your power goals? what are you using to tune and data log with?

Plug wise you seem like you're in a BPR7ES range if you're over 15psi with your current mods.

Fluid wise get a nice thick oil for boosting pleasure... I use 20W50 Brad Penn Racing Semi-Synthetic. Get a GOOD filter.. etc.

Tranny I use a Blend of BG SynroShift II and Redline Heavy Shockproof 2:1. If you haven't upgraded shifter bushings now would be a good time. This will make your tranny shift amazing!

Transfercase and rear diff is 75w90 Redline.

Cam wise depends on what you want to rev too and if you plan on upgrading your valve train. I have Comp 101200s with Manley springs and Ti Retainers. Being a 2.4 liter I don't rev past 7500. Lots and lots of people are using the Brian Crower 272s or the HKS 272s. the HKS are proven a number of times over and over again and Brian Crower just made them cheaper, same with the DKS 272s from FFWD - one of the site sponsors.

Before you go crazy make sure your timing belt, balance shaft belt, accessory belts, all fluids, a compression test, possibly a leak down test are ALL DONE before you start beating the hell out of it. You'll thank me later for this...

You have just bought the most high maintenance girlfriend you'll ever know... make sure you're ready because they need constant attention all of the time. Good luck and welcome to DSMs and Tuners. :dsm: :thumb:

What do you want out of this car?

Don't just give a hp number, unless you know what you are running now. . . or at least know what your peak mass flow is right now via a good log. Or know what your 1/4 mile speed is.

I attempted the search earlier but it wasnt working then....working just fine for me now...dohh...LOL

I already have a fpr and I believe I have dsm link, I have the cable just havent hooked it up to my buddies laptop to see if it is.

To my understanding the SAFC is only used for like 2% correction.

I am supposed to be running 21lbs when on high and 12 when on low on the boost controller, when I drove it though I got about 16-18 on hi and 9-10 on low. But I wasnt taking it all the way to redline either.

I belive I am going to look into the 264/272 cams as I wont more of a midrange power band.

You said NGK plugs fill in 6, 7 maybe 8 cooper...what does that mean???

BTW I will get to the profile ASAP---Thanks guys

I was told the car previously ran an 11.6 @ 117 with the old safc ( that safc was stolen and they hadnt quite gotten this one tuned the same way or something)

I am looking to eventially get t tuned at 3sx in the next month or so.

But mid 11's to low 11's is fine for me. Its what I was looking for and still simi-streetable.

You most likely are not running 11's on that setup unless your car is stripped out.
Odds are you have a cable for a datalogger. You said you had a chip for the tune. If you had dsmlink you wouldn't have the safc.
I would use Ngk Bpr6es or bpr7es plugs.
There is no reason to not be running synthetic.
The cheapest places to get couplings are usually local little places, but I know extremepsi has couplings you could look through or ma performance could help you out.

yes extremepsi.com has become my friend...LOL

Just ordered the bpr7es from the local store, will have the tommorow.
