hey guys. this is my first post after alot of reading. well i just picked up a 96' Eagle Talon Tsi FWD auto. my first 4 banger and turbo car( i have a 12 sec 3800 supercharged).

well i paid $1200 and drove it home from Detroit(3hrs). it had a check engine light for both O2's and the MAFT(p1400), but i still had to see how it did in the quarter. without changing anything, and the car is completely stock, i did a best of 15.8@89mph.

since then i have replaced both O2's and ordered alot of parts for maintenance and upgrade at the same time purposes.

here is a list of what i have purchased so you have an idea of what im working with and where i want to go:

- a timing belt + water belt kit w/all gaskets
- a used 2G head
- ARP head stud kit
- head gasket(Fel-Pro Permatorque)
- a EVO III ported 16G turbo + install kit
- 16G turbo J-pipe and oil feed line kit
- a CX racing downpipe, 2.5", 3" after the flex.
- a Walbro 255 fuel pump kit
- an Apexi S-AFC 2
- a balance shaft eliminator kit

now the only thing left on MY list is a wideband and a boost gauge. i just wanted to make this a "quick" beater because i put most of my money into my Bonneville(3800 SC'd). im in a wheelchair, so i needed a spacious fast automatic. this Talon is tiny. LOL.

so i have afew basic questions from the people on here with experiance in these.

- do i have everything i need to make this 16G work? anything else i need?

- is there any advice, or things to watch out for?

i have already printed out each writeup off of vfaq.com that i needed. but any input would be great. thanks

While you have the front cover off change the seals for the oil pump and crank, I didn't do this and had to take it apart again. Also a adj. fuel pressure regulator for the 255 and maybe some injectors depending on how crazy you are going with the 16g. I would recommend dsmlink over the safc but the safc is cheaper and again depends on how far you want to take things.

Steve

yea i didnt want to go much farther then this. i got it as a DD beater but it needs maintenance, and upgrades are cheaper then the OEM parts.

ok so i got the oil pump seal. should i get the crank seal in a kit, or just the seal? the kit comes with the seal, 3 small gaskets and a couple o-rings.

what do u mean about adjusting the FRP for the Walbro? and i was debating on injectors. how much boost can i take the 16G before i would need the injectors? i wanted to be around 15-18psi. no higher.

On what I've read, sounds like you are in the right path. I have read not to go past 16psi on stock injectors. You should at least get some 550's, but since you have the 255fp already, go ahead and get an afpr and some 650's.
Have any pics of the car?

@phunny, thanks, i always fully maintain every car i get right away. but idk about the auto. i HAVE to ### im in a wheelchair now. damn motorcycle. i loved driving manuals. my first car i learned to drive on was manual. but yea, im worried ### idk how much power this auto can handle.

@ HULK, just posted an avatar and put some pics in my gallery. they're the pics i took right when i got it back from Detroit. its in the garage all torn apart already. LOL.

so until i get injectors, no more the 15-16psi. got it.

and im still unsure about the afpr. i thought the SAFC 2 was gonna give me the tuning i needed. which afpr do i need?

and yea i might get 550's from a buddy for $70.

With the walbro 255 fuel pump you need an AFPR (aftermarket fuel pressure regulator) to control pressure. It dosen't really matter which brand just dont pick up an Ebay one (i just really hate cheap egay parts). Your 550cc injectors should be fine for 16-17 psi but dont go much higher cc's because there is a limit as to which size injectors you can use with an SAFC! Like i said though your 550's will be fine! The auto transmissions will be fine handeling your mod list. No worries! Hope that answers everything!

You could just get a Wally 190 and you wouldn't need the FPR, it is recommended for the 255. For what your doing a rewired 190 would be perfect. Make sure you do the rewire. With injectors, 190, and SAFC and a wideband/logger you should be good for 18-20psi.

@16G DSM, its funny u mention cheap ebay parts. becasue ive always hated them too. never bought any parts for my 3800 off ebay. just the credited vendors. but everything u see on that list was bought off ebay. LOL. most of the vendors for these DSM's also sell the same products on ebay for cheaper. so i figured to just get for my "beater". who knows tho, im kinda startin to like this thing. ###### even more once its all done.

@ 69_luv, yea, 18-20psi is what i wanted. but i also talked to a few DSM friends near me and they told me as long as i do the re-wire with the 255 then ill be alright. so since i already have it on its way, i just got a re-wire kit off ebay. those AFPR's are expensive.

so im thinkin the 255 with the rewire and keep the boost below 18psi.

If your going with the 255 get the AFPR. Its better to buy the higher flowing pump because in the future if u want to go deeper into the 1320 you would have to buy another pump, since the 190 can only flow so much. Just buy the 255 and wait for a cheap AFPR to pop up in the forumn classifieds.

Ok since no one is explaining to him why he needs a afpr, I will. When you go with a bigger fuel pump like the 255, you run the risk of over running the stock fuel pressure regulator. Because the 255 is able to flow so much more fuel than the stock fpr is ment to handle. If you went with the 190 and did the rewire you could get away with the stock fpr. But since your not and using the 255 and also a rewire, you better wait to put that thing in till you get a Afpr. With the (Afpr) ADJUSTABLE (not aftermarket) fuel pressure regulator you will be able to ADJUST the fuel pressure back down to stock therefore not over running the fpr. Your stock fpr cannot be adjusted which is why u need a Afpr. Hope that helps you bro, and have fun with the talon I know I love mine. If anyone else has anything to add go for it. Oh I advise skip the safc and go with ecmlink money well spent. ### we all know once you start really boosting a Dsm you won't wanna stop LOL. Do alittle extra now and it will pay off later.

Just to clear something up. The odds you are going to overflow the 190lph pump with a Evo 3 Big 16g turbo are very low. You'd need a damn near perfect set up which honestly you don't have and obviously you don't want.

The wally 190 has made near 400hp on great set ups... which is about where the best set ups have taken the 16g.

get bigger injectors 550cc should do, a Fuel pressure regulator, and gauges (boost, Air fuel) if not you may lean out like i did and blow your motor. Good luck. What i had was a 16g on my stock setup and an evo 3 exhaust manifold.

thanks again guys. and i knew what AFPR meant(i have one on my Bonneville, 65# siemens, and a PRJ fuel rail, running E85). LOL. but yea im not going any farther then the 16G for this car. mainly because i wanted an AWD and got this FWD for a deal. if i had an AWD i'd be rebuilding the whole motor and get EVERYTHING that i need, no cheap way out. but i just wanna put this in the 13's, maybe 12's, and have fun with it this summer. then i wanna sell it by the time school starts again.

i asked a few DSM tuners near by and they told me i'll do fine without an AFPR. just the pump, rewire, and 550cc injectors. just gotta keep the boost down. now u guys got me wondering if i shoulda just got the 190.
