I just purchased a 95 Talon Tsi AWD completely stock 94,000 miles. Looking to upgrade this car so I can use it as my street/ fun car. I have a 2000 Mustang that breaks every day w/ a DSS forged Mod Motor running 250 shot throgh a direct port nx kit. Recently broke the differential in half (fun times). Anyway I was looking for what would be a good start on this car. I inspected the timing belt and it seems to be in good shape but I also bought a timing belt kit that includes a new mitsu tensioner and a goodyear timing and ballance shaft belt. I know a fair amount about these cars through friends. In the tech it says the first upgrade should be a air-intake. I want to use DSMLINK for tunning would it be better to get a 3.5" GM MAF and MAF-T for a blowthrough setup? I'm looking for a 12.9's car for now but in the spring I will pull the motor and do a 6-bolt swap for something really solid and let it be my g/f's race car. Oh it's an Auto by the way, I was tired of the stick mustang for a while and I talked to IPT. I'm going to get their end clutch kit and a valve body with their upgraded valve and a shift kit pre-installed. I may also buy an IPT race trans next year if need be. Looking for a good starting point but not wanting to limit myself and/or by parts now that will be useless next year.

Definitely do the gm maf/maft blowthrough with you dsmlink, just makes it that much easier to make good power. Take the timing belt kit with the goodyear belts back and get a refund, do a search on them, nothing but bad things. You have a long way to go to get in the 12's, but just make sure you do maintenance first and then get started on the things in the tuning guide.

What timing belt / tensioner should I run?

The Mustang ran mid to lower 11's all year spinning through every gear and I'm thinking this DSM will take a million years to get there....

Nah, I'll run your stang..... :thumb:

It won't take that much to get there in that car, especially if you put some nitrous on it like you did that stang. There is a guy on here that ran 11.149 with pretty much all stock except the fuel system. Stock turbo, intercooler, etc. I would go with OEM on the timing belt and tensioner.

The stang is always ready for a fight. I dynoed 680/ 776 last year on a mild tune :). I noticed in your car profile you have a 12.2 @ 113 w/ a 2.0 60' You must have some mid track secret all the other dsm's missed. Bad out of the hole and not a lot of top end netted you a 12.2? Some sand-bagging occured in that number i bet LOL. Wheres the best starting point for me though on the dsm?

I would go ahead and get the dsmlink if you can, upgrade the fuel pump and injectors, get the gm maft setup, then after all of this you will be set up to start upgrading your turbo, intercooler, things like that. I just prefer sacrificing a little now and doing some things that won't help you a whole lot, but will set you up for what you get later. Though I do believe there is some power to be had with dsmlink and some exhaust. With that dsmlink you could get that extremely rich factory a/f ratio leaned out a good bit to like 12.5:1 instead of I believe it is 9.5:1 in the mid rpms and 9.8:1 from 6k up, something in that area. That would be some good gains right there for now and you would be set for when you started upgrading the good stuff.

With the DSMLink they ask for your injector size... Should I buy like 880's and install them too or just tell them my stock size and wait to upgrade? I know the DSMlink in the 2g's cant hold the tune after a battery reset... I have a 95 too so I should have the Eprom capability already...

Some 95's I believe don't have the eprom but you can easily check yours just pull the ECU and look for the E on the white sticker. Look Here post #54 is a pic of my eprom ecu.

Maybe you missed me above. I was wondering about the injector issue. Is it hard to have it changed later? I have the stock injectors now but will obviously need more soon, should I order 800 and some odd cc injectors or should I just buy the DSMLink and not worry about it? I run 55LB injecotrs in the mustang what's the diffrence between the LB and the CC?

Your going to fast. Get Intercooler piping first, open your air filter. I know you wont get into 12's with the stock BOV. Follow the guide. AFTER you choose what size turbo you want to run, you will know what size injectors compliment it and your driving routine, i.e big injectors for street and huge injectors for a track only car.

Since he is going dsmlink he can go ahead and go with huge injectors, doesn't matter. My 1000cc's idle great! I would go ahead and get the injectors now with the dsmlink if you have the money. Otherwise its not that hard, just look at their tuning guide and get the settings they suggest for the injectors you buy and go from there. If your battery goes dead and resets the ecu you either pull up your latest log and load the settings off of it or you save the settings to a disk or memory stick every time you make some changes and load it off that.

Please review the information posting on these webpages and the vfaq's we have written in our tech section of our webpage. The air setup that you should go with would easily be found via searching through the fuel setup forums or just checking out what everyone is running. Alot of people like the blow-through setup so they can vent with no problems.

Also as the person above you noted about the dsmlink+eprom setup. You're going to need to make sure you have an eprom ecu before buying a dsmlink setup and if you don't have a eprom ecu get ready to pull it and send it off to get socketed.

Goodluck with your car, hopefully the friends you have that "know alot" about these cars will help you along a good tuning path, I know we here at tuners will.

:)
Thank you
John
