I found reasonable upgrades on this site and what to get first, especially in my case where i have a bone stock talon tsi awd, But i guess you can say where should I start. I got so many ideas rambling up in my head, should i start with a Electronic boost controller, or a intake? Gauges perhaps or maybe an exhaust system? Keep in mind i want to keep my 14b for now... and i have some money to play with, but i want to know whats worth getting.. thanks for the opinions.:thumb:

Well i went ahead and looked at some of the tips to do before buying parts and then got mischief like a 7 year old boy at toys r us LOL and went ahead and bought a Boost controller(AEM), Dejon intake, Boost/Air fuel gauge. Now i want to head for something like the exhaust manifold. I heard that they tend to crack on the 1gens. The thing im having a hard time looking for is a exhaust system. Im not trying to be cheap, but some of them are about 700.00 and im not trying to ebay it LOL (no offense) to anyone.

No offense at all to alll the dudes saving money on exhaust. Ebay has a fair amount of exhaust, intakes, some manifolds, radiators and intercoolers. They function just fine. The ebay turbo's are what you should worry about. Search more, then ask/post more questions. Thank you, come again :thumb:

Exhaust is what will help you get the most power. So don't cheap out just save up your money.

But....if you're just stickin with the 14B you should be good with the stock exhaust for now. I'd set aside money for maintenance before putting on performance mods though. But that's just me.

There is a huge thread on here about ebay exhuast. There is absoultly nothin wrong with it FYI. I have heard it sounds great, and looks good so. I would just buy the ebay exhuat it will save you money for the other goodies you will need:thumb:

al i can say is with a boost controller and stock fuel pump is BE CAREFULL and don't just start "cranking the boost". i think the exhaust system and upper intercooler pipes should be your first choices. i would also take the air fuel light show back as it is a useless gauge unless your running a wideband and just get and EGT gauge. i would think about some good tires too (i don't what you have but tires/suspension is often overlooked)

amen brother ... it would suck to put a couple grand under the hood to just break a timing belt or BS belt (been there)

Yeah im gonna definetly get a fuel pump as well should of mentioned that... LOL and your right suspension is over looked, but its a progress gotta go one at a time... and yeah im not gonna crank up the boost that much ;) LOL

I only posted caps once... And yeah i am following the path, but where did you come from I mean all of sudden i was getting great advice and you come in just to be straight rude. Im allowed to ask newbie questions I think thats why its called a newbie forum...:notgood:

Yes this is a newbie forum to ask newbie questions, but if you expect us to give you respectful and accurate answers, then we expect you to read the rules and faq when you first sign up. This would have answered a bunch of your questions right off the bat and then you can come in here and ask things you are not quite sure on.

One thing they ask is to respect members that have been on here a while, that is why you need to be "careful" in a sense.

I can tell you from experience that I got dsmlink as one of my first upgrades and it's been the best upgrade I ever got. When the time came I understood the program and was ready to start really tuning the thing. Also do some maintenance and follow the path and advice of everyone on here.

i have so many "kids" that get these cars and immidiatly want to turn up the boost.

dudes got a point! but getting back on track.........
if i were to get another bone stock turbo dsm i would,
1. make sure maintanance is all caught up ie timing belt, brakes, lubricants , and such.
2. get a good known boost gauge and wideband.
3.tuning ie AEM EMS, ecmlink v3, safc
4. breathing ie fmic and exhaust
5. fuel pump injectors and adjustable fuel pressure regulator
6. boost controller and bov
7.clutch upgrade
8.rod/piston upgrade and arp head studs if going over 350 awhp. some will argue this and say 400
9. bigger better turbo kit upgrade.
10. sheet metal intake manifold if you really want your car to sing.
if any one thinks there is something wrong with my mod order feel free to say so
hey look, i mad a 10 step program. haha

I've got a 95 TSI AWD. What mods I've done so far is the bov, dejon tool air intake, a k+n air filter, the cat convertor has been removed (Not Legal), and a shift linkage kit. Not 100% sure what mods the previous owner did other than a speed limiter elimination. It can do 0 to 105 in a quarter mile. Not sure how much better that is compared to stock though. Good Luck.

There is so much bad information in this thread.

Just read the upgrade guide. With the 14b you'll want hard intercooler piping (upper and lower), a 190LPH fuel pump (no, you WON'T need a fuel pressure regulator for this), a nice 3" exhaust, an intake, and a manual boost controller.

This will be good for 15-16psi on a 14b (your mileage may vary, it was good for 16psi on my Evo 3 16g)

If you want to run higher boost then you'll want to get injectors. 550's are a common upgrade but I personally don't feel they're worth the money since they are such a small step up. I personally went with 680's, which are perfect even if you want to upgrade to an Evo 3 16g, you'll be able to max out the turbo with those injectors.

Now if you get injectors, you're gonna need a way to "tune" so that you don't run incredibly rich (too much fuel). If you want your car to pretty much feel stock in terms of tune, I'd recommend a chip (if you have an EPROM ECU). I have one that was burned for me for my 680's, and it runs as if it was completely stock.

If you don't have an EPROM ECU then you would probably be happy with the 550's and an S-AFC. 680's is pushing it for an AFC and you'll lose a lot of the ability to tune if you get injectors that flow that much.
