I had a thought, and decided to try it out, and it turned out pretty good. I modeled it in 3D CAD, and sent it to my water-jet guy to cut. It's 304 Stainless Steel plate, that is water-jet cut, polished, and I put a bent at the top with "U" shaped cut-outs to act as plug wire seperators. I used valve stem cover as spacers (Temporarily) to make it sit up flush with the top of the valve cover, and there is a strip of blue SMT LEDs under it (which will be wired to a hood switch) Not the best pics (phone) but what do you all think?

It's interesting. but the first thing that came to mind was...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpC81-SJcvo]Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart (video oficial) - YouTube[/ame]

If that's your thing, then it looks good. Hopefully the bulbs last in those unforgiving conditions. If you had an Evo style hood you could see the glow through the header vent. Cool? Maybe?

Ya I don't think those LEDs are going to last in there. You should just install them when you are heading to a show or a meet. Looks good for your car though.

Definitely came out sick and might grab some extra points at a car show. However, I'm only assuming your main focus with the car is that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Looks good, zimbobway africa guy is a little rude... Seems like a good idea, I think the word "mitsubishi" woulda looked better though

But, alot of people have Mitsubishi written somewhere and is pretty general. 'Total Eclipse' gives a unique theme to his specific car....I think it fits his presentation perfect...

As for the "boost leaks", the motor is not finished yet. I still have a few other things to get. "Total Eclipse" is the project name for the car, as it is an all around package. Show car, daily driven, 100% owner built, and fully built motor/suspension/etc. I wired in a 2 pin harness clip so I can unplug it and remove it whenever I want (daily driving), and the letters should allow the hot air to vent out instead of collecting at the LED's, so we will see if they last. If not, then I will order another $10 set, and only use it at shows. As for the vented hood, I am getting a carbon fiber OEM one, as I am trying to clean up the body as much as possible. It has shaved badges, emblems, door handles, spoiler, antena, and when I redo the paint, will also have shaved "rain gutters", rear wiper, gas cap, and washer nozzles. Thanks for the compliments. I like it and that's all that maters, just wanted to share and see what you guys thought of it. :)

Heat is the ultimate killer of LEDs, and the lettering will not promote airflow as there will be so much heat generated. Hence why high-powered LEDs have heatsinks attached to them. Now multiple that by about 10x on the valve cover with no air movement.

Good idea though on the harness plug for it :thumb: I'd definitely remove it altogether for DD, and plug'er in only for shows and such. You'll grow tired of replacing the LEDs every few days, if not less.

I put on the harness plug not only in case the LED's don't survive, but also to unplug when working on the car, as it will be wired to a hood switch.

Thank you, and yea, that's the whole idea. To have a car that is show worthy, but is fully built, driven regularly, can hold it's own on the track, and %100 owner built.

The reason it sits higher is to allow the glow around the perimiter, and it will sit lower when I get some shorter standoffs. these pics were just a mock up.
